Not since Cronulla Sharks arrived in town have I looked forward to a game at the DW Stadium as much! It’s not that I’m looking forward to tonight’s match with Leeds, though it should be intriguing for several reasons. No. It’s that for nearly two months, Wigan have been on the road. Which was great to hear. But this block of matches has been costly for fans, and it’s great to get back home (on a new hybrid pitch, no less). I’m excited to see what Joe Greenwood brings in his debut. I’m predicting Leeds to be better than their six-match losing run suggests. And I’m expecting a great spectacle at a sun-kissed stadium in front of fans as happy as me to … [Read more...] about Talking RL: Looking forward to some home comforts… at last!

A PLAYBOY Muslim bodybuilder has sparked outrage by flaunting his "haram" lifestyle on Instagram. Sydney-based powerlifter Yakiboy regularly shares snaps of elaborate body art, diamond-studded watches, and luxury motors with his 62,000 Instagram followers. In one provocative shot he stretches out on his bed's silk Versace sheets while gazing at a £1,000 lamp made from a gold-plated Beretta handgun. The bodybuilder frequently posts semi-nude shots - often with his privates covered with a pizza slice emoji. One semi-naked selfie is captioned "You're sleeping at night, you wake up and find me in your house, my balaclava hiding my face and my RIG FIT undies hiding my anaconda. What you going to do in this situation?" But several commentators have taken issue with his posts - claiming that he is going against his Muslim faith. Earlier this year one fan wrote: "Are you ever scared that on the day of judgement allah [sic] will ask you about your tattoos? "Tatooed [sic], alcohol and … [Read more...] about Inside the lavish lifestyle of tattooed ‘Muslim soldier’ Instagram star who infuriates critics with his ‘haram’ body art
From ‘dirty’ grills to posh kebabs, and asado to za’atar... Genevieve Taylor sizes up this summer’s hottest new barbecue kit, trends and recipes Advance action Getting ahead of the game is the key to a relaxed barbecue. Think about salads and sides you can make ahead of time – like balsamic grilled tomatoes or marinated grilled courgettes or peppers – or stuff that is cooked on the barbecue at the same time as everything else, like vegetable kebabs or chargrilled asparagus. Keep things simple with one meat or fish dish, one great veg dish and a couple of easy salads. Give yourself time for your barbecue to heat up – about 20-30 minutes with charcoal, less with gas – and remember that it’s better to cook most food slower over a low heat than risk burning. Steak is a good exception to this rule. Burger boom Marcus Bawdon, editor of UK BBQ Mag, thinks spectacular street-food-truck-style burgers will be a big hit at home this summer. … [Read more...] about The A to Z of BBQ: from asado to za’atar, the tips, kit and recipes you need for a sizzling summer
THE majority of us enjoy a drink or two, but few will be fully aware of what too much booze can do to our bodies. It all seems fun and games when we head to the pub on a Friday - but what exactly are the risks? Beyond your standard hangover and texting-the-ex-regret, most of us aren’t too clued up on what binge drinking is actually doing to our brain, liver, stomach and heart. And if we did, we probably wouldn’t be so blasé about that fifth glass of rosé. Professor Kate Conigrave, a specialist in addiction medicine at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, is well-versed in the short-term effects of overdoing the booze. “Up to 30 per cent of people attending emergency departments have alcohol-related presentations,” she says. “If I can use a pun, it is sobering.” Below, is a look at exactly what’s going on when you drink too much.Brain damage There are reasons some people knock back a “personality drink” before social … [Read more...] about What happens to your body after a night of heavy drinking? Thrifty living, with Sheena Grant Hundreds of millions of people across the planet marked Earth Hour, from 8.30pm on March 24. The annual initiative, led by conservation charity WWF to highlight climate change and other environmental threats, involves turning out the lights for an hour and doing something different, perhaps going stargazing, eating dinner by candlelight or spotting local landmarks that are taking part (globally these included Buckingham Palace, Edinburgh Castle, the Eiffel Tower and Sydney Opera House). This year, 9 million people in the UK got involved. Sadly, I wasn’t one of them. I tried but one member of the household just ‘had to’ watch The Voice on TV while another suggested driving to a local beauty spot for a hike in the dark. Neither seemed appropriate so I dozed on the sofa for an … [Read more...] about Do your bit for Earth Day in East Anglia
