The Duchess of Cambridge , the Earl and Countess of Wessex and Princess Alexandra led the royal charge at Wednesday's Buckingham Palace garden party. The parties, a staple of the royal calendar, have been resurrected this year after a three-year hiatus . Some 8,000 guests, dressed in their finery, mingled in the beautiful spring sunshine as they enjoyed afternoon tea in the 39-acre garden. As is tradition, the royals emerged from the palace at 4pm, all eyes upon them as the national anthem was played. Princess Alexandra, 85, opted to hang back, walking into the garden after the anthem before they fanned out into the gardens to meet queuing attendees arranged into "lanes". Prince Edward , as the most senior in the line of succession and therefore official host, led the way. The Duchess , who wore a pink dress by Emilia Wickstead and a hat by Jane Taylor, was met with cheers of delight as she bent down to greet guests in wheelchairs from an inclusive acting company … [Read more...] about Duchess of Cambridge leads the royal charge as she represents the Queen at garden party

‘Myth of hard-working Royals is a smokescreen – their only job is to protect themselves’
"Let's go back to the '50s," Prince William beams, donning the medals he 'earned' by being a Mummy's boy - while commoner Kate slips into her budget-friendly Alexander McQueen dress (a hopeful omen, perhaps?). "Smile and wave," he says, standing symbolically high on his moving pedestal , the corners of his mouth slowly slipping. Why isn't everybody cheering for the white man? Will thinks. Yes, the monarchy benefitted from slavery. Yes, protestors are calling for reparations . Yes, I'm completely out of touch but I got up on stage and declared slavery should NEVER have happened . What more can I do? "I wonder if this was a mistake?" Kate whispers - the first thought she'd formed on her own in a while - as she shakes the hand of a Black child through the prison- I mean gates. Safe to say, the standing symbolically high on his moving pedestal deserved the backlash it created. But from it, talk about the royals' hard work ethic and dedication to duty also arose. … [Read more...] about ‘Myth of hard-working Royals is a smokescreen – their only job is to protect themselves’

Meghan and Harry under fresh pressure as Netflix cuts continue
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are under renewed pressure as Netflix announced it cut 150 staff members due to a subscriber exodus. The streaming giant has seen memberships drop for the first time in ten years and expects millions to quit the platform in the current quarter, The Guardian reported. The blow to the company comes just weeks after Pearl , Meghan's first Netflix project, was axed alongside two others also in production. Harry's documentary Heart of Invictus is currently still due to go ahead as part of their multi-million dollar, multi-year deal. A Netflix source recently told Newsweek the series is one of a number of projects with the couple's Archewell Productions brand. However, no additional shows have yet been announced and with a new round of cuts at the streaming service, fresh on the back of previous ones, the couple will be under pressure to ensure their output is commercially viable. Netflix cancels Meghan Markle animated series Pearl
Published 2 May Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Netflix has cancelled development of Pearl, an animated series created by Meghan Markle, in its move to cut costs. The show, which was announced last year, is one of several projects being dropped by the streaming giant. Last month, Netflix revealed a sharp fall in subscribers and warned millions more are set to quit the service. That wiped over $50bn off the company's market value as experts warned it faced a struggle to get back on track. Archewell Productions, the company formed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced last year that Meghan would be an executive producer of Pearl. The series was planned to centre on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl, who is inspired by influential women from history. Netflix did, however, confirm that it will continue to work on a number of projects with Archewell … [Read more...] about Netflix cancels Meghan Markle animated series Pearl
Keighley: ‘Golden days’ of shopping return at retro store
Published 26 March Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A pop-up alternative department store has opened in a West Yorkshire town as part of an arts project based around the "golden days" of shopping. The K-Town Shopper Project aimed to bring a "retro" feel to the former Sunwin House shop on Hanover Street, Keighley, organisers said. Independent businesses from around the town have set up stalls inside, including food and drink sellers. Aimee Grundell, from the project, said it was a "trip down Memory Lane". She said: "The idea was to get footfall back in and around Keighley as some businesses weren't quite getting the customers they wanted, post-Covid. "It's getting back that buzz for shopping and what it used to be. It's about saying, let's shop local and support local businesses - but in a very creative way. "We've taken over this old department store, which has … [Read more...] about Keighley: ‘Golden days’ of shopping return at retro store
