Derby County boss Frank Lampard has revealed how Nottingham Forest assistant boss Roy Keane was a big influence on him when he was starting out in football. Both men had glittering players careers as midfielders at the very top level, winning a host of trophies between them. On Monday night, they will be in opposing dugouts as Lampard's Derby side take on Forest at the City Ground (7.45pm). While Lampard is in his first season as a manager, Keane recently returned to one of his former clubs, as number two to Martin O'Neill. Andy Reid has defended Roy Keane's management style from criticism.Keane's high-profile training-ground bust-up with injured duo Harry Arter and Jon Walters was the subject of much comment in the final months of his Ireland tenure under Martin O'Neill.Reid supports Keane's abrasive attitude, however, saying it's the players who need to change rather than the now Nottingham Forrest assistant manager."Roy is demanding. He demands high standards and you need to be mentally strong working with him," Reid told talkSPORT."I don't see any problem with that. People are saying you can't treat people like that anymore. What? You can't demand high standards? "You can demand high standards. Day in, day out. Pass the ball probably. Ten-yard pass, make sure it's done probably. There's a tackle there to be made, tackle. Do it properly. Reid's final international cap came in O'Neill and Keane's first game in charge of Ireland, a 3-0 friendly win over Latvia in 2013. He said Keane has had to adjust to … [Read more...] about ‘People need to work on their personalities’: Andy Reid defends Roy Keane’s handling of players
This was a new England, far removed from the volatile days of the past. In their pre-World Cup base in Repino there was a basketball court, driving simulator, PlayStations and a games room. There was a recovery pool where the players raced inflatable unicorns. The media engaged in darts tournaments against Southgate's squad. This was the beginning of a pointed campaign that would lead to the country going all in with Southgate and his players. We will probably never know exactly what happened on May 31 at the Irish training camp in Dublin as Martin O'Neill and his men prepared for a friendly two days later against the USA. What we do … [Read more...] about Roy Keane’s training ground bust up and England’s likability: Just when was Declan Rice’s head turned?

Ryan Yates has only played three matches in a Forest shirt but the 21-year-old is already showing the same attributes as a young Roy Keane did back in the early nineties. Although It’s nearly 30 years since I watched Keane burst onto the scene at Nottingham Forest, there are similarities between the Irishman’s game style and that of Yates in a red shirt. Before I’m accused of getting carried away by attributing such comparisons, these are merely first impressions.Nottingham Forest supporters have pleaded with the last few managers to throw the youngster into the side and he’s certainly vindicated those who’ve campaigned for him. As fans, we can however be forgiven for thinking that we know more than the professionals at times. And, we’ve heard similar shouts for the likes of Ben Brereton, Arvin Appiah and even a handful for Toby Edser. However, you need only read the comments from Yates’s adopted managers during his four different loan spells to … [Read more...] about ‘Nottingham Forest rookie Ryan Yates has a touch of Roy Keane about him’
