Ezra Miller is suspected by police of hiding the whereabouts of a mother and her three children, who had all been staying with the star at their Vermont property. According to court documents reviewed by Rolling Stone —which had reported back in June that the family had been staying with Miller on the actor's farm under allegedly dangerous conditions—Vermont State Police had attempted to serve an emergency care order to the mother of three over the weekend. Per the documents, there was a plan by law enforcement officers to remove the children—aged 1, 4 and 5 years old—from the Justice League star's property and the care of their 25-year-old mother. However, according to the documents, Miller, who uses the they/them pronouns, informed the officers that the mother and children in question had departed the property 2 months ago and not returned since. The Vermont State Attorney's office is reported to have suggested in the documents that Miller may have been attempting to … [Read more...] about Ezra Miller in new probe as police hunt mother, kids who stayed with star

Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch finalise divorce vowing to ‘remain good friends’ after he ‘may have ended marriage by text message’
Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch are officially divorced after six years of marriage. It was revealed in June that the former model and media mogul, who tied the knot in 2016, had separated with Jerry filing for divorce . Weeks later, it was claimed that Murdoch, 91, had informed Hall, 66, that he no longer wanted to be in the marriage electronically – either via email or a text message , sent while she was reportedly waiting for him to arrive in the UK. On Wednesday, lawyers for both parties released a joint statement confirming that the divorce proceedings were completed. Robert S Cohen, the attorney representing Murdoch, and Judy Poller, for Hall, said in the brief comment: ‘Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch have finalised their divorce. ‘They remain good friends and wish each other the best for the future.’ The announcement came after reports that Hall, who was previously in a lengthy relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, had requested the Los … [Read more...] about Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch finalise divorce vowing to ‘remain good friends’ after he ‘may have ended marriage by text message’
Donald Trump poised to announce presidential run
Donald Trump is likely to announce his much-expected 2024 presidential run from Florida, sources have told The Telegraph , amid speculation he is intent on overshadowing his Republican rival Ron DeSantis. At his mansion on the ultra-exclusive island of Palm Beach, the only clue to the wealthy enclave’s newfound prominence in US politics is the jumbo-sized American flag rippling in the wind. Yet it is here, amid the verdant lawns and palm trees of Mar-a-Lago, that the former president has formed the headquarters for a political comeback that some believe might come as soon as this month. Mr Trump, who recently turned 76, has spent the last few months assembling a council of advisers at his private club to plot his return with a highly anticipated 2024 campaign. The Sunshine State holds numerous advantages as a campaign launchpad, but some suggest Mr Trump has a singular motive: overshadowing Florida’s other 2024 hopeful, Ron DeSantis . The Florida governor has emerged as … [Read more...] about Donald Trump poised to announce presidential run

Drawing on life’s little ironies
Before settling into the serious business of self-revelation, Jean-Jacques Sempé places a roll-up between his lips and plops on to the piano bench. As he bangs away at the keys, swaying and puffing in rhythm, he bears a startling resemblance to one of the cartoon figures that have, over the last four decades, made him a legend. His depictions of housewives spit-polishing train tracks, businessmen quibbling over metaphysics at the water-cooler and astronauts discussing extramarital affairs en route to the moon have been published in more than 30 countries. Born in Bordeaux in 1932, Sempé has spent most of his life in the St Germain-des-Près district of Paris, where he lives a stone's throw from the actress Catherine Deneuve. As a young man, he worked endless odd jobs, even delivering wine by bicycle through the rolling hills of the Gironde. "I had a go at all sorts of things before taking up drawing, but none of my jobs lasted very long," he says. "I tried to work for a bank, the … [Read more...] about Drawing on life’s little ironies
‘Day I caught a couple of strangers getting frisky in my garden’, writes JENNI MURRAY
Right to Roamers are on the march again, with a group of more than 100 Morris dancers and ramblers dressed as sheep invading the Englefield estate in Berkshire last weekend. The protesters were calling for more of the countryside to be made open to the public and claim only eight per cent of land in England is accessible to all of us. It's true that half of England is owned by less than one per cent of its population — 30 per cent owned by the aristocracy, but around 70 per cent is land either owned or rented by farmers who are not necessarily wealthy or posh. They are people who view the countryside not as a leisure activity but as a working environment. Jenni Murray writes that she once found a couple canoodling in our garden as she discusses Right to Roam campaigners I have some experience of the battle between those who own their land and those who feel it's desperately unfair that they can't trudge all over it. On the one hand, I have great sympathy for those who … [Read more...] about ‘Day I caught a couple of strangers getting frisky in my garden’, writes JENNI MURRAY
Now that’s what I call Dr Who
Last night’s episode of the show, penned by Wellington based screenwriter Neil Cross, was everything a Doctor Who story should be. It had all the essential ingredients of a cracking episode. The episode’s title, The Rings of Akhaten, promised an Indiana Jones style romp and had at least two meanings - more on both of those points later. There was time travel, opening with the Doctor stalking new companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Louise-Coleman) through time. Having him hide behind The Beano Summer Special of 1981 was a clever way to signal when he was and had me exclaiming ‘‘of course’’ over his choice of reading material. ‘‘She’s not possible’’ will become a catchphrase this season as he learns how Clara was able to live and die as the junior entertainment officer on board the Starship Alaska in the future, a Victorian governess in the past and then join him as a 20th century-born girl, her book 101 Places to See tucked under her arm. Clearly Clara is as puzzled as the good … [Read more...] about Now that’s what I call Dr Who

Scottish independence: How will indyref2 compare with 2014?
By James Cook Published 30 June Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Dust off the placards. Unpack the soapbox. Grab your cagoule. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has fired the starting gun in another referendum campaign — so here we go, right? Not so fast. Many supporters of independence describe the run up to the 2014 poll - when Scotland voted to stick with the UK by 55% to 45% - as exhilarating and optimistic. Plenty of their opponents recall feelings of exclusion and sadness. Either way, it is hard to deny that politics came alive that year. For a while the nation crackled with energy as campaigners for and against independence debated poverty and pensions in the nation's parks and plazas. BBC iPlayer - Independence: Why Scotland could vote again Is indyref2 Nicola Sturgeon's biggest political gamble? Some of that enthusiasm persists in … [Read more...] about Scottish independence: How will indyref2 compare with 2014?
