Shani Warren: Donald Robertson found guilty of murdering woman whose body was found in lake 35 years ago
A man has been found guilty of the "lady in the lake" murder of a woman in 1987. Donald Robertson was convicted by unanimous verdict at Reading Crown Court of murdering 26-year-old Shani Warren, and of kidnapping and raping a teenager in 1981, decades after his "horrendous" crimes. The serial attacker, 66, was charged last year after a police cold case team found new DNA evidence linking him to the death of Ms Warren in April 1987. The body of Ms Warren, who lived in Stoke Poges in Buckinghamshire, was found bound and gagged in a lake in Taplow Lake on the Easter weekend that year. Her car had been abandoned in a layby on the A4, with bin bags containing remnants of grass after she had recently mowed the lawn, as well as an Easter egg in the driver's footwell. Advertisement Robertson did not attend the trial and the dock was empty on Tuesday as a jury found him guilty of both crimes. He was convicted of the false imprisonment, indecent assault and … [Read more...] about Shani Warren: Donald Robertson found guilty of murdering woman whose body was found in lake 35 years ago
Europa League final: The fall and rise of Rangers
Any club that survives for 150 years knows the highs and the lows. At Ibrox, the highs have seen dizzying spells of domination, the lows have been as bleak as they get. It is though the last decade in which Rangers have added a chapter that might be called "the fall and rise" but that would not quite capture the magnitude of the turmoil Rangers found themselves in back in 2012. The hordes of buoyant Rangers fans landing in Seville ahead of the Europa League final were in a very different place 10 years ago - there were tears outside the gates of Ibrox as the news was confirmed that this famous old club was to be liquidated. The finances were a mess - creative accounting built on quicksand had seen the club borrow more than it could afford. For the fans, the slow car crash that played out at Ibrox was painful to watch. As you might expect, their rivals delighted in the club's spectacular collapse. Advertisement Administration led to liquidation. Beaming Queen’s surprise opening of Elizabeth Line so last minute TFL replaced plaque
The Queen's visit to see the opening of the new Elizabeth tube line earlier today (Tuesday, May 17) was such a surprise that the official unveiling plaque was changed around an hour before the event. Royal expert Richard Palmer tweeted: “There was a major clue an hour and a quarter before Edward was due to arrive when Transport for London removed the plaque saying he had opened it and replaced it with one eight inches lower bearing the Queen’s name. “She looks great.” And a Buckingham Palace spokesman said shortly before the event took place: “In a happy development, Her Majesty The Queen is attending today's event to mark the completion of the Elizabeth line. “Her Majesty was aware of the engagement and the organisers were informed of the possibility she may attend.” The … [Read more...] about Beaming Queen’s surprise opening of Elizabeth Line so last minute TFL replaced plaque
