Lionel Messi hurt his left knee in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Las Palmas before Luis Suárez scored twice to lift the defending champions, temporarily at least, to the top of La Liga on Saturday. Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer asked to be substituted in the eighth minute after he had tried to return to the match following a collision with Las Palmas’ Pedro Bigas. The club said he has been taken to hospital for tests. With Messi gone, Suárez took charge of the hosts’ attack. The Uruguay striker headed in Barcelona’s first goal in the 25th minute before he struck again in the 54th. Neymar missed a penalty in the 66th before the Las Palmas forward Jonathan Viera scored in the 88th. Real Madrid can restore their position atop the league with a win over Malaga later. • Full match report to follow Topics La Liga Barcelona Las Palmas European club football Lionel Messi Luis Suárez match reports Share … [Read more...] about Luis Suárez sends Barcelona top but win overshadowed by Messi injury

The Walking Dead locked in legal battle over ‘wrongful death’ of stuntman who fell from balcony
THE Walking Dead bosses have gone to trial over the death of stuntman John Bernecker in 2017. Show network AMC has been accused by Bernecker's parents of cutting corners and ignoring safety standards, which they claim led to their son's death. AMC have denied the claims and will argue that they are not responsible for his death because the stunt work had been contracted out to Stalwart Films, and that Bernecker's "negligence" led to his death. Susan and Hagen Bernecker are being represented by the same lawyer who also represented the family of the Sarah Jones, the camera assistant killed on the set of Midnight Rider in 2014. The Jones' family won $11.2 million (£8.4 million) in that case. The 33-year-old stunt man died in July 2017 after falling 22 feet from a balcony on to concrete floor, just missing the landing cushion.Variety reports that the prosecution will allege that Monty Simons, the stunt coordinator, "used an unsafe set-up for the stunt, despite knowing from a prior … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead locked in legal battle over ‘wrongful death’ of stuntman who fell from balcony

Carlos Bacca double breaks Dnipro hearts for Sevilla to make history
In the end, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk’s sense of their own destiny was not enough. Sevilla, playing their familiar attractive football, became the first side to win the Europa League for the fourth time – astonishingly only nine years after they won it for the first time. While José Antonio Reyes offered a reminder of his energy and inventiveness for an hour, this was really the victory of two men who confirmed their great promise. Unai Emery, the 43-year-old coach, defended the title he won by beating Benfica in the final last year, but in a far more fluent, aesthetically pleasing way, while the 28-year-old Colombia forward, Carlos Bacca, demonstrated his predatory instincts with two goals. Emery dedicated the victory to his father, who died a fortnight ago. “I would like to remember my father,” he said. “He passed away recently so he can’t be here today. He’s pushed us along to give us victory. This is a special moment and we have to live it … [Read more...] about Carlos Bacca double breaks Dnipro hearts for Sevilla to make history
