Firefighters are currently working to tackle a large fire at a factory yard in Rochdale. Residents have been asked to keep their windows and doors shut while crews deal with the fire - which measured 20m by 40m at it's height. The fire, which involves a quantity of plastic, broke out in a factory yard on Dye House Lane, at around 6.20pm on Monday evening (June 3). Fire engines from Rochdale, Littleborough, Heywood and Atherton raced to the scene to tackle the blaze and prevent it from spreading. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) reported that 'good progress' is being made and officers are damping down the affected areas. AFC Fylde have announced the signing of Jordan Williams from Rochdale on a two-year deal. Retail giant H&M will be coming to Rochdale for the first time. The retailer has struck a deal to occupy two floors within Rochdale’s new £80m retail and leisure development, Rochdale Riverside. It will eventually join M&S, Next, River Island, JD Sports, Boots and Reel Cinemas. Known for its fast-fashion clothing for men, women, teenagers and children, H&M and its associated companies operate in 62 countries with over 4,500 stores. The news marks a major step forward for the scheme, which will bring a variety of retail and leisure units to Rochdale town centre and create up to 1,000 new jobs. It is being delivered by Genr8 developments in partnership with Kajima and Rochdale council. Controversial plans to regenerate part of Rochdale town centre - which include demolishing four of the Seven Sisters tower blocks - have taken a significant step forward. Housing mutual Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) has launched a search for a partner organisation to help complete the 15-year transformation of College Bank and Lower Falinge. Bosses say identifying a new partner to bring in in additional expertise is a crucial step in delivering its vision for the area. A procurement process has now been lauched with the aim of finding a firm with a ‘proven track record’ of successfully regenerating areas while supporting communities through the process.
