A 21-year-old man has died after falling from a car park in Hastings town centre, the police have confirmed. Sussex Police officers and crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) were called to the Priory Meadow car park, in South Terrace, on Saturday (May 18). A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “At 3.10pm on Saturday (May 18) a man was seen to fall from the roof of the Priory Meadow car park in Hastings on to the ground below.“Despite efforts of police officers and paramedics who swiftly attended to him, he was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.“He is believed to be a 21-year-old Hastings man but formal identification has not yet been confirmed. “There are no suspicious circumstances and the Coroners Officer is continuing enquiries.”A spokesman for SECAmb said they were called to the scene by Sussex Police to reports a person had ‘fallen from height’.They added: “Ambulance crews attended the scene but despite the best … [Read more...] about Man dies after fall from Hastings town centre car park

A man has been rushed to hospital following a broad daylight attack in Stockport town centre. The victim, a man in his 30s, was assaulted on Princes Street, close to the busy Merseyway shopping centre. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A cordon is in place close to the Debenhams department store while investigation work is carried out. Nobody has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing. A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At around 1pm today (Monday May 20, 2019), police were called to reports of an assault on Princes Street in Stockport. "Emergency services attended and the victim – a man in his 30s - has been taken to hospital, where he remains. "A cordon is in place near to Debenhams while investigation work is carried out. An American visitor had just stepped into Sweny's, the Lincoln Place pharmacy that features in James Joyce's masterpiece, seeking a literary souvenir. At the time, I was interviewing PJ, one of the volunteers running the shop. I loved his suggestion: a diary with an image of Ulysses as its cover. Sweny's is dyed-in-the-wool Dublin. A pharmacy dating from 1847, immortalised by Joyce ('Smell almost cure you like the dentist's doorbell,' Leopold Bloom muses), closed in 2009 but rescued from oblivion by a group of volunteers who have sold books and soap, held readings, sang songs and poured cups of tea ever since.
