Louis Theroux to investigate wild world of snooker for new BBC documentary series

· March 1, 2021 ·

IT was the gentleman’s game that turned working-class lads into millionaire playboys . . . but snooker often left them mired in gambling, drugs and booze. The Eighties sporting phenomenon and all its excesses is the focus of a three-part documentary series for BBC2 created by Louis Theroux’s new production company. As executive producer on Gods Of Snooker, Louis will meet some of the game’s greats, including former world champs Steve Davis, Cliff Thorburn and Ray Reardon. Louis said: “The story of the heyday of snooker is a remarkable one filled with drama and angst and enormous talent. “I get most excited about those that are the most human: Conflict, triumph, disaster — all the big emotions — played out before your eyes. And you have that here. “I’m old enough to remember the 1985 (World Championship) black-ball final between Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis. I was 15 and everyone was talking about it at school. “We’ve been privileged to work on this with almost all … [Read more...] about Louis Theroux to investigate wild world of snooker for new BBC documentary series

· March 2, 2021 ·

Cutting down fat in foods could prevent 4.5 million people from becoming overweight or obese in the UK, a new study suggests. Experts from the Wolfson Institute, Queen Mary University of London, found that reducing the fat content in manufactured and out-of-home foods by up to 20% over five years may cut the prevalence of people being overweight or obese by 6.8%. As a result of this strategy, they claimed 4.5 million fewer people would go on to become overweight and obese . This reduction in energy intake would result in an average weight loss of nearly 6lb (2.7kg) over five years, they said. Their study, which was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, estimated that this could prevent 183,000 cases of type 2 diabetes over the course of 20 years. Arsenal fans fume as Tottenham dodge gruelling Croatia trip before derby with Europa Leave clash vs Dinamo Zagreb moved

· March 1, 2021 ·

UEFA have confirmed that Spurs' Europa League tie with Dinamo Zagreb has been switched, with the North Londoners' losing their home advantage for the second leg. But the change has left some Arsenal fans raging, after it handed Tottenham an edge going into the North London derby. Both North London sides were set to have their round of 16 away legs up first, before hosting Dinamo and Olympiacos respectively a week later. But with Uefa rules dictating that two teams can't play in the same city on the same night, one fixture had to change. With Arsenal taking priority over Spurs by virtue of having qualified through winning last season's FA Cup, their tie was kept as it is. Tottenham, meanwhile, will now host Dinamo first... avoiding a 2,000 mile round-trip just three days before their Premier League clash with Arsenal. Mikel Arteta 's side, on the other hand, will have to travel nearly 4,000 miles as they head to Athens and back to face Olympiacos in their round … [Read more...] about Arsenal fans fume as Tottenham dodge gruelling Croatia trip before derby with Europa Leave clash vs Dinamo Zagreb moved
