BRITISH weather is famously unpredictable - whatever the time of year. Here, we explain why the Met Office issues colour-coded weather warnings to give people advice on how to stay safe during hazardous weather. What is a yellow weather warning? To help prepare people for potentially dangerous or disruptive weather, the Met Office provides colour-coded warnings to try and keep the public informed. They issue warnings ahead of severe or hazardous weather which has the potential to cause "damage, widespread disruption and/or danger to life." The warnings are given a colour to reflect the seriousness, ranging from yellow, amber and red. Yellow is the least dangerous out of the weather warnings - it means "be aware".Severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you. A pig has been blamed for bringing some of London's busiest rail lines to a halt on Wednesday.It all started when a water pipe burst in Surbiton, south west London.When engineers from Thames Water arrived to fix it, they were greeted by the large pig, believed to be a pet named Pickle. Thunderstorms, heavy rain and flash floods are set to hit parts of the UK as the wet October continues.Met Office forecasters have issued an amber warning for thunderstorms for parts of East Anglia and South East England, meaning there is a greater chance severe weather will affect and potentially disrupt travel plans this week.Some areas have already had more than half their average monthly rainfall, the Met Office said. In a move nobody saw coming, retail giant The John Lewis Partnership has just unveiled a big change. The company's two brands, John Lewis and Waitrose have undergone a rebrand, complete with new names and logos - the department store is now John Lewis & Partners, while the supermarket will be known as Waitrose & Partners. Developed by Pentagram, the new logos feature the same elements across both brands, but with a black colour scheme for John Lewis and green for Waitrose. The changes are set to be rolled out across UK stores over the next five years, but new branding has already been revealed online and at John Lewis’s flagship Oxford Street store, as well as Waitrose in Edgware Road and Clerkenwell.
