That fits the results of more specialised fear surveys. According to the German insurance firm R+V, Germans are most concerned about money: their biggest worry, at 58%, is the rising cost of living. After that, at 51%, comes the fear of becoming disabled in old age and being a burden to others, as well as the fear of natural disasters. Two-thirds of those polled fear that Germany will have to spend more money on the euro crisis. All in all, Germany’s fear index, the average aggregate of all its personal, economic, and political fears, sank in 2014 to its lowest level in 20 years.
