A deal with the Democratic Unionist Party will mean Theresa May has a stay of execution at Number 10. Can we expect her to perform any better than she has done in her first 11 months, which is already being compared to Anthony Eden’s disastrous leadership from 1955-1957 which crashed in flames after his mishandling of the Suez crisis? Prime Ministers usually come to power ill-prepared for what lies ahead and without the willingness to learn. Theresa May was no exception. She appointed two tenacious Chiefs of Staff, Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill , who had worked alongside her with ferocious loyalty at the Home Office. She thought that she could employ the same style in the vastly different world of Number 10. But the job of Prime Minister is one of persuasion, not command and control. Timothy and Hill crafted a meritocratic agenda for her which had much sense: but it never gained traction across Whitehall. Both individuals have become scapegoats for the election defeat and … [Read more...] about Theresa May Mark II could well be the most successful period of her premiership

Picking up pickleball
It all started more or less out of necessity back in 1965, on Bainbridge Island, Washington, when a couple of neighborhood dads, Bill Bell and Joel Pritchard, were looking for something – anything – to keep their bored kids entertained. They had some pieces of wood, a plastic ball, and a badminton court, so they made up a game on the spot and named it "Pickleball." David McCallum showed correspondent Luke Burbank the ball used in that inaugural game. "This is the Cosom Fun Ball," he said. "You can see, 'Safety Play' is the little label on there." McCallum offered one version of how the game came to be named Pickleball: "The Pickles version of the naming is that Pickles would run around here in these bushes and grab the ball, so they named it after Pickles the dog." Burbank said, "But there's also some speculation that Pickles was born after the game was invented, which would make it impossible." "It would!" While the origin of the sport's name might be complicated, the game … [Read more...] about Picking up pickleball
THE £60 MILLION BRAND THAT TOOK (CACAO) BALLS TO BUILD! Ella Mills opens up about family, fame and facing down her haters
When Ella Mills, 31, says that her life is ‘on fast-forward’ it’s hard to disagree. Just ten years ago, as a student, she started the blog Deliciously Ella, detailing her recovery from debilitating illness through meditation and plant-based recipes. Today, Deliciously Ella is a multifaceted lifestyle brand with projected revenues for 2022 of £20 million (putting the company’s value at around £60 million) and over two million Instagram followers. In 2012, plant-based eating was a niche concern. ‘But now 50 per cent of the UK population are into it,’ she says. Clearly there is a lot of money to be made from cacao nibs. Ella and her family (husband and Deliciously Ella’s CEO Matthew Mills, 38, and their daughters Skye, three, and May, nearly two) live just off London ’s Kensington Church Street, where houses sell for north of £5 million, but Ella insists their lifestyle is not lavish. She can’t drive and her husband Matthew’s car is a secondhand BMW. Their last holiday was four days … [Read more...] about THE £60 MILLION BRAND THAT TOOK (CACAO) BALLS TO BUILD! I uncovered America’s secret serial killer – he was as psychotic as Ted Bundy and kept sick snaps of victims in shoebox
NO one knew that the blue-eyed and “silver-tongued” Bruce Lindahl was a serial killer - until new DNA technology revealed his horrendous crimes. Lindahl is believed to have murdered at least nine young people during a nine-year period up until 1981 in the United States and is being investigated for many more cold cases. The true nature of this stone-hearted kidnapper, rapist and strangler only emerged when Detective Chris Loudon tried to solve the 46-year-old case of slain schoolgirl Pam Maurer, 16, from Lisle, near Chicago in Illinois. His investigation led him to a box full of naked photographs of young women taken by the twisted Lindahl. Inside were Polaroids and prints of often terrified, underage and drugged females either tricked or forced to come home with the sadistic predator. Most escaped alive, but many did not. ‘Walk with Tito’ tour in Zagreb dives into ex-Communist leader’s legacy
With no street or statue to remember Yugoslavia's late strongman Josip Broz Tito, a new tour in the Croatian capital Zagreb is hoping to trace the leader's complicated legacy in the city where he remains a delicate subject. Adored by some and hated by others, four decades after his death Tito remains a polarising figure across the former Yugoslav republics, including Croatia, where he helped usher in prosperity and authoritarianism alike. The tour's curator Danijela Matijevic said the idea for the project first came about in 2017 after authorities in Zagreb stripped Tito's name from a prominent square. The move was the latest in a string of measures over the years aimed at ridding the country of its Yugoslav past, removing plaques and monuments along with renaming streets and squares. But for Matijevic, history still matters. "Tito was definitely one of the 20th century's political giants," Matijevic said. Walk with Tito The "Walk with Tito" tour, launched … [Read more...] about ‘Walk with Tito’ tour in Zagreb dives into ex-Communist leader’s legacy

Details of the final letter the late Dame Deborah James sent to her family have been revealed for the first time since her passing. The BBC podcaster, who tragically lost her battle with stage 4 terminal bowel cancer in June aged just 40, penned the book 'How To Live When You Could Be Dead' whilst she was dying. In it she recorded all the lessons she learned throughout her four year fight with the disease, paying particular attention to staying positive in the face of adversity. The Dame had some special advice for her children, an extract of which in letter form has been published by the Sun. The Dame had some important advice for her children After describing the 'mental snapshots' that never leave you as a parent, she talks about the moment of seeing her now 14-year old son when he was just four days old and cradled against her. She describes that point she said began to 'understand what love was'. She added that she wished she could 'protect him in the way' … [Read more...] about Deborah James’ heartbreaking final letter shared including beautiful advice to her kids
