A Middlesbrough restaurant, which was named best in the North-east, has announced it is to close. The Smeltery at mima will shut at the end of the March. A letter to customers states the decision has been made "whilst the art gallery and Teesside University review their plans for the future". The Smeltery is the brainchild of the Luke Harding and partner Emma Trotter - the people behind popular vegetarian restaurant, The Waiting Room in Eaglescliffe. Since opening in 2016, it has made a big impact on the Middlesbrough food scene. It also won Best Restaurant in the North-east at The Food Awards England last year. More than 200 people have objected to plans to transform a former bank into a three-storey restaurant in the heart of Whitby. It is in the English Midlands. Britain's best curry houses have been named in a brand new awards ceremony - and one of Bolton's best has made the list. The inaugural Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA) were hosted by celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and BBC news presenter Samantha Simmonds. Categories at the glitzy ceremony included a Lifetime Achievement Award, National Chef of the Year, and National Newcomer of the Year, as well as regional awards for the best restaurants and takeaways. Bagging the top prize for the North West was Hot Chilli Restaurant in Bolton, which has been open since 2011 and specialises in eastern Indian cuisine. Members of the public were invited to submit their nominations for the ARTAs, with shortlisted restaurants then competing in a cook-off to decide on an overall winner.
