Scott Morrison’s future in parliament is under a cloud and his legacy as prime minister has been challenged after he was accused of undermining Australia’s democratic system by secretly appointing himself to five senior ministries without the knowledge of most of his cabinet colleagues, leading to calls for his resignation. In a day of extraordinary political revelations that included questions about the actions of Governor-General David Hurley, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese revealed that Morrison had taken on the critical portfolios of treasury and home affairs in May 2021 without informing the relevant ministers. Both Josh Frydenberg and Karen Andrews learned at Albanese’s press conference on Tuesday morning that their portfolios had been co-opted, prompting a furious Andrews to immediately call for Morrison’s resignation from Parliament. Albanese said Morrison’s conduct had undermined Australia’s democratic system, accusing him of creating a cabinet committee of one … [Read more...] about Australia’s minister for everything: Calls for Scott Morrison to resign grow

Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘have no plans to meet Cambridges’ on UK trip
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to see the Cambridges when they return to the UK next month, The Telegraph understands. The couple will visit both the UK and Germany to attend multiple charity events “close to their hearts”, their spokesman announced on Monday. It raised the prospect that the Duke of Sussex might take the opportunity to reconcile with his brother , with whom tensions remain. The pair are not thought to have spoken face to face since last summer, when they unveiled a statue of their late mother , Diana, Princess of Wales, at Kensington Palace. However, although by then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be ensconced in their new property on the Windsor estate, just a stone’s throw from the Sussexes’ Frogmore Cottage , there is no current expectation that they will meet. The visit will be focused on their charity work, sources insisted. The trip will come just weeks ahead of the Duke of Sussex’s expected book launch , which … [Read more...] about Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘have no plans to meet Cambridges’ on UK trip
“The Undeclared War” star Simon Pegg and creator talk predicting the future
The Simpsons is not the only show that is able to predict the future to a scarily accurate degree, as The Undeclared War has been able to do exactly that. Peacock's new drama is set in 2024 and follows Saara Parvin (Hannah Khalique-Brown), a university student who joins Britain's Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) for an apprenticeship as an analyst with Danny Patrick (Simon Pegg). There, Saara is quickly drawn into an intense conflict between the U.K. and Russia when the latter hacks the other country's electoral system that GCHQ need to retaliate to, leading to a series of cyber attacks that are at risk of creating a full-scale war. Pegg and show creator Peter Kosminsky spoke to Newsweek about the way in which the show was able to foresee events, and how "terrifying" it was to dive into the dark realities of cyber warfare. 'The Undeclared War' Star Simon Pegg and Creator Talk Predicting the Future Although set in the near future, the show makes several … [Read more...] about “The Undeclared War” star Simon Pegg and creator talk predicting the future
Israel’s anti-Netanyahu protests explode as coronavirus cases soar
Dozens of people were arrested at protests in Israel on Tuesday night, as pressure builds on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his handling of the COVID-19 virus pandemic and outstanding corruption charges against him. Hundreds gathered outside the prime minister's official residence in Jerusalem on Tuesday to demand Netanyahu's resignation over fraud, breach of trust and bribery charges, as parallel demonstrations took place in other parts of the country. The charges against Netanyahu were a key element of the three general elections held in Israel over the past year. Each time, no party was able to command a majority in the Knesset, prompting the formation of a unity government between Netanyahu's Likud party plus its conservative allies with former Israel Defense Forces general Benny Gantz's centrist Blue and White coalition. Netanyahu—Israel's longest-serving prime minister—will remain in office until November 2021 when he will hand power to Gantz, who is currently … [Read more...] about Israel’s anti-Netanyahu protests explode as coronavirus cases soar

RAF personnel chief ‘unashamed’ of ‘pausing job offers for white men’ to employ more women and ethnic minorities
The RAF's top personnel officer has confirmed she did ask her recruitment team to "stop filling up the training courses" with new recruits temporarily after diversity targets were not being hit. The admission by Air Vice-Marshal Maria Byford came after Sky News reported on Tuesday that the head of RAF recruitment had resigned in protest at what defence sources described as an "effective pause" on making job offers to white men in favour of women and ethnic minorities. An RAF spokesperson at the time denied that there had been any pause in recruitment. Speaking to The Times, Air Vice-Marshal Byford - one of the most senior female officers in the air force - said she was "unashamed" of a policy that could mean women and ethnic minorities are in effect being prioritised for roles over white men. The Chief of Staff Personnel - who is the boss of the female Group Captain who quit in apparent protest at what the recruitment team was being asked to do - said in the interview … [Read more...] about RAF personnel chief ‘unashamed’ of ‘pausing job offers for white men’ to employ more women and ethnic minorities
