AP Updated 7:12 p.m. UTC Aug 11, 2018 A look at what's happening around the majors today: NO WORD YET The Dodgers are still waiting for definitive word on how long closer Kenley Jansen might be out because of an irregular heartbeat. He was put on the 10-day disabled list Friday and manager Dave Roberts wasn't sure if his absence would be 10 days or possibly even closer to a month — like it was when the right-hander went on the DL for the same thing seven years ago. "I'm hoping as soon as I can to get something, just for my peace of mind, the guys on the field — our peace of mind," Roberts said. "His health is most important. Whatever they have to do, the doctors have to do, to protect him." The 30-year-old Jansen was tied for the NL lead with 32 saves. In his absence, Roberts will use a closer-by-committee approach. ARENADO AILING The Rockies will see how star third baseman Nolan Arenado is feeling, a day after his early exit during a 5-4 win over the Dodgers at Coors … [Read more...] about LEADING OFF: Dodgers await wait on Jansen, Arenado ailing

Gabe Lacques USA TODAY Published 3:19 p.m. UTC Jun 25, 2018 The New York Mets' free fall is well into its third month, the heady early days of April and their 11-1 start now looking like a hallucination in a season gone terribly awry. The 10 weeks since have exposed the Mets' flawed roster, odd organizational culture and created the sense this is a squad stuck in the middle - far from contention, not inclined to rebuild. And now, there's no stopping the momentum as they sink toward the bottom of the major leagues. The Mets rank a season-low 26th in USA TODAY Sports' Major League Baseball power rankings, and while it's amusing now to consider they reached as high as No. 4 back in that glorious April, it's jarring to ponder the teams now above them. Thanks to the Mets' six-game losing streak and the Cincinnati Reds' seven-game winning streak, the Reds vaulted the Mets in our rankings, despite a payroll some $50 million less than New York's opening-day … [Read more...] about MLB power rankings: Just how low can the New York Mets go?
