Cochrane’s Scotland: Sturgeon’s Nats will be hoping for a collective memory loss among the Supreme Court

July 1, 2022 by www.telegraph.co.uk

Unremarked upon so far has been the fact that Nicola Sturgeon is taking an enormous gamble in seeking to win the Supreme Court’s approval for what most observers reckon is her plan for an unlawful referendum on Scottish independence. No, not because it is a certainty that she’ll lose, although again that's the smart bet, but because since the SNP took a firm grip on the Scottish government 15 years ago, the relationship between its ministers and the Supreme Court has, to say the least, been extremely fraught. From its very foundation in 2009, nationalist ministers have taken great exception to what they’ve seen as the UK Court’s “interference” in the jealously guarded and unique Scottish legal system. This reached a head two years later when the then SNP justice minister Kenny MacAskill launched a scathing attack on the judges over their, in his view, ignorance of Scots law. He accused them of “ambulance chasing” and said the most they knew of Scotland was what they picked … [Read more...] about Cochrane’s Scotland: Sturgeon’s Nats will be hoping for a collective memory loss among the Supreme Court

Legal Experts Say Democrat Panic Over Supreme Court And Climate Change Is Hot Air | The Daily Wire

July 1, 2022 by www.dailywire.com

Some legal experts say that the Democratic Party’s meltdown over the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on greenhouse gases and the Environmental Protection Agency is a bunch of hot air. On Thursday, the high court ruled 6-3  in West Virginia v. The Environmental Protection Agency that the EPA lacked the authority to curb greenhouse gases in order to bring about a transition away from coal energy throughout the country because it was not specifically granted that power by Congress . Democrats accused the Supreme Court of  dooming the entire planet with its ruling. James Coleman, professor of law at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and publisher of the Energy Law Professor , told The Daily Wire that all the ruling means is “that if Congress and the administration want new climate policy, they’ll have to pass it in new legislation.” Coleman theorized that the decision — authored by Chief Justice John Roberts and affirmed along ideological … [Read more...] about Legal Experts Say Democrat Panic Over Supreme Court And Climate Change Is Hot Air | The Daily Wire

Ex-Mexican Immigration Chief: Cartels Made ‘Huge Expansion’ In Human Smuggling Trade ‘In Last Two Years’ | The Daily Wire

July 1, 2022 by www.dailywire.com

Human smuggling operations led by Central American drug cartels have exploded since U.S. President Joe Biden took office, according to a former top Mexican immigration official. Former Mexican immigration chief Tonatiuh Guillén said Friday that human smuggling industry south of the United States’ southern border has seen extreme growth recently as drug cartels and other smaller smuggling operations transport people to the U.S. “Drug-trafficking organizations end up dominating the structure of migrant-trafficking groups,” Guillén told The Wall Street Journal . “There’s been a huge expansion in the last two years.” Former Mexican intelligence chief Guillermo Valdés backed up Guillén’s claim, telling the WSJ: “Migrant smuggling has become an industrial business. Demand is huge and rising, and that means you need more and bigger transportation.” Valdés comment on “bigger transportation” is a reference to the use of vehicles such as the abandoned tractor-trailer found near San … [Read more...] about Ex-Mexican Immigration Chief: Cartels Made ‘Huge Expansion’ In Human Smuggling Trade ‘In Last Two Years’ | The Daily Wire
