Upon exiting the Love Island villa, most Islanders take the influencer route, but Paige Thorne is itching to get back to her day job. The Welsh star narrowly missed out on a place in the final with now official boyfriend Adam Collard , but the pair couldn’t be more loved up as they settle into life as a couple in the outside world. Prior to appearing on the ITV2 dating show, Paige worked as a paramedic and she has no plans to hang up her uniform any time soon. Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine on Friday, Paige – who was originally coupled up with Jacques O’Neill before he left the Majorcan villa – shared how she got major FOMO (fear of missing out) after the show ended and she heard an ambulance with sirens blaring. ‘I’ve got a meeting to go back to paramedic work, so that will be exciting,’ she said. ‘I actually saw an ambulance the other day with sirens on and I had like, serious FOMO. Mobile network O2 has announced a change to its phone contracts - and it'll make it easier for you to get a new phone. However, O2 customers can now swap their phone to a different model as many times as they like through the new Switch Up service. The option is now available for new and existing customers on a Plus Plan at no extra cost. For those on other plans, you can add on Switch On as a bolt on for £3.99 a month. There are no limits on how long customers need to have had their phones to be able to switch, and it does not matter how long is left on the existing contract. However, you should keep in mind that you'll be entered into a new contract - so you'll be tied to O2 for a longer period of time. You will technically be starting a new contract. Downing Street’s energy crisis summit offered cash-strapped Brits no answer
A DOWNING Street summit with energy bosses yesterday offered little hope for hard-up Brits. Lame duck PM Boris Johnson even said he would spare the firms further taxes if it were up to him. With bills now predicted to hit £5,000 next year, fat cats from companies like EDF, E.ON and British Gas owners Centrica met Mr Johnson, Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi and Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng . Ministers are looking at ways to knock another £500 off bills as well as force energy producers to up production. Boris told the meeting that hitting profits with a new windfall tax would be up to the next Chancellor — but added: “If it was up to me I wouldn’t go down that route”. However bosses were warned that massive bills would ultimately ruin the industry if ordinary people cannot pay up. The German universities offering free education to refugees
Something wonderful is happening in Germany's classrooms. Despite the political unrest surrounding the European country's refugee influx, its leading academic institutions are opening their doors to Syrian refugees. Around 60 universities are offering free courses and some are even waiving their expensive fees to Syrian nationals who arrived in Germany this year, including three institutions in the capital Berlin and 16 in the northeast of the country. Germany currently hosts more than 250,000 refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, according to the U.N. Refugee Agency . A spokesman for the country at the heart of Europe's refugee crisis said on October 5 that it expected up to 1.5 million asylum seekers to arrive by the end of 2015. Young workers hit hardest by lockdown legacy in threat to global growth
Young workers’ job prospects have been hit hardest by the pandemic and the legacy of Covid lockdowns, with dire consequences for the long-term future of the global economy, the International Labour Organisation has warned. There are 19m fewer under-25s in work compared with 2019, the agency said. Global youth unemployment – defined as those who are out of work but actively looking for employment – is still 6m above pre-Covid levels, though expected to fall to 73m this year from 75m in 2021. Combined with lost education as a result of schools being closed through the pandemic, the findings mean today’s youngsters can expect to be less productive and less well-paid for years to come. The young have suffered particularly badly as companies slashed new hiring when Covid struck, favouring older workers who were already in jobs. As a result, the hit to those starting their careers has been bigger than the blow dealt to those who were already in work. “Young people were especially … [Read more...] about Young workers hit hardest by lockdown legacy in threat to global growth
