Former Ring of Honor World Champion Dalton Castle knows how to make an entrance. Wearing a jumpsuit with winged sleeves and flanked by his shirtless 'boys', think The Darkness' Justin Hawkins mixed with Freddie Mercury at his Bohemian Rhapsody finest. But underneath the flash and flair, Castle is an accomplished wrestler , who made his way up the US indie scene before reaching the top of ROH and capturing the world title in December 2017. For six months Castle held the title, however, it wasn't the reign the 'Party Peacock' envisioned or deserved. Plagued by injuries, including two broken bones in his back, having the belt became somewhat of a burden for Castle, as he struggled through title defences in agonising pain. "As champion, I don't think I did nearly as well as I would have liked," Castle admits. "For me, it was more about the chase and the ambition to gain the title, that was the real victory. "But I'm not proud that I wasn't able to hold on to the title and perform to the … [Read more...] about Dalton Castle on why his world title run disappointed but his future is fabulous

Two decades ago, in 1999, the iconic teen movie 10 Things I Hate About You premiered. It arrived in a bumper year for high school rom-coms, with She’s All That, Notting Hill, Runaway Bride and Drive Me Crazy also hitting cinemas. The sweetly raunchy movie introduced teenagers everywhere to the definition of “pensive,” the possibility of being just “whelmed” and the true purpose of black lingerie. The film, based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, was also Heath Ledger’s breakout role. Then a largely unknown Australian actor, Ledger played a high school bad boy who seduced the school's toughest cookie - and 'taught' her about love in the process, obviously... In 2009 there was an attempt to recapture the rom-com's magic with a short-lived10 Things I Hate About You TV show, but it lacked the chemistry of the original. Twenty years later, the movie has stood the test of time, with strong female … [Read more...] about 10 Things I Hate About You cast: Where are they now, twenty years later?
The fact that some choice is good doesn't necessarily mean that more choice is better. Psychologist Barry Scwartz wrote that in his book 'The Paradox of Choice' - yet you imagine incoming Wales coach Wayne Pivac certainly won't have been begrudging the additional options secured for him this week. The news that Willis Halaholo and Johnny McNicholl have committed their immediate future to playing in Wales should peak the interest of more than just Cardiff Blues and Scarlets fans. Both qualify for Wales after the World Cup and could be selected in Pivac's first Six Nations squad should they both wish. Halaholo has stated his ambition to play for Wales, McNicholl less so. But you wonder whether the Kiwi full-back would have the same reservations once the actual call-up came. Unlike the psychological field, more choice is better is an accepted standard in sport, but the real question is whether these specific new choices are better than what Wales already have. In short, are Halaholo and … [Read more...] about Are Wales’ two new Kiwis actually good enough? The evidence examined
Put yourself in the shoes of the average metropolitan millennial. You’re moving ahead in your career, getting closer to the day you’ll finally own your own home and perhaps considering whether to start a pension or investment Isa. You might think you’ve got to the stage where you need the services of an independent financial adviser (IFA) — but would they take on a client like you? All too often, the answer is no. As many young professionals can attest, we simply don’t have enough money — yet — to make it worth the industry’s while. It is possible to argue that my generation is in greater need of financial advice than those before us. We have to contend with the shadow of student debt, a collapse in home ownership and higher levels of self-employment as wages stutter. Yet call up an IFA, and your youthful voice will be interpreted as the sound of a client with very little money and very few assets. Unless you have a high salary, large … [Read more...] about Where millennials turn for financial advice
There are five major world cups in sport in 2019, Jamie Wall kicks us off with the one most New Zealanders will know about - the Rugby World Cup. Graphic: Michel Mulipola When and where is the Rugby World Cup? Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few years, you should know that the sport's showpiece tournament will be held in Japan for the very first time. From 20 September through to the final on 2 November, the All Blacks will mostly be based in Tokyo - with a couple of pool games held in Oita and Toyota City. There are 12 venues in total across the length of Japan, which is roughly the same size as New Zealand geographically. Population-wise, it's a different story, in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area alone there are 38 million people out of a national population of 127 million. So it's fair to say they're not going to have many problems filling the seats in the stadiums. What advantages do the All Blacks have at the Rugby World Cup? The All Blacks are the two … [Read more...] about Year of the Cups: Rugby World Cup 2019
