Eden Hazard was unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday as around 50,000 supporters turned out to welcome the player they hope will launch a glorious new era under Zinedine Zidane. The 28-year-old Hazard was presented with the home shirt, which was without a number, by club president Florentino Perez, moments after the Belgian had delivered a brief statement to his expectant fans. "Hello everyone," Hazard started in Spanish, to huge cheers, before continuing in French. "It was my dream since I was small to play for Real Madrid and now I am here." "You are one of the best players in the world," added Perez. "We know Real Madrid was where you wanted to be and now you're here." Madrid confirmed the much-anticipated transfer of Hazard from Chelsea on Friday for an initial 100 million euros ($113 million), with another 45 million in potential add-ons. Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United has attracted plenty of speculation ahead of the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid among those linked. The France World Cup winner has been subjected to criticism following United’s disappointing end to the campaign, which has added further fuel to the fire regarding an exit from Old Trafford. Real Madrid supporters have been voting in a poll which asked them which of the club's transfer targets they most want to see signed - and Paul Pogba came dead last. Spanish publication AS asked over 160,000 Real supporters to pick between six players who have been strongly linked to the club, with Pogba receiving less than 10 per cent of the votes cast. Eden Hazard came top of the pile, bringing in 53,700 votes. Chelsea's Belgian star is widely expected to move the Bernabeu this summer, with a transfer ready to be tied up shortly after he plays for the Blues against Arsenal in the Europa League final on May 29. In second place was the Eintracht Frankfurt forward Luka Jovic, who is believed to have agreed terms on a £52.4million move to Madrid following a stellar season in the Bundesliga. Tottenham star Christian Eriksen was third with 25,300 votes, with AS claiming that the Dane can usurp Luka Modric in the Real midfield. However they also note the notoriously hard … [Read more...] about Real Madrid fans vote on transfer targets
Suffering relegation to the Segunda Division with a goal in the last five minutes at your own stadium in the penultimate game of the season is a tough blow. Despite that sheer disappointment, the majority of the 13,000 Girona fans inside Montilivi stayed in the stands. And they did not stay to whistle their players but to applaud their efforts during two great seasons in the top flight, their first ever campaigns in LaLiga Santander. There was also the farewell to Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid after nine terrific seasons with the club, which was by far the highlight of the weekend. In a week where the word 'failure' returned to be associated with the team which, only ten days earlier, was receiving high praise for winning their eighth league title in the last eleven seasons, those samples of greatness deserve to stand out for their exemplary nature. Between so much tension and rancour are the behaviours to imitate. On Sunday, Keylor Navas and Gareth Bale will play their final match … [Read more...] about Can Real Madrid fans give Bale a fond farewell?
