A Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape has been questioned over two further rape allegations. The player is in his 20s but cannot be named for legal reasons. The Metropolitan Police said on Tuesday that an allegation of rape was made by a woman in her 20s on 4 July. That was regarding an alleged incident in June this year. The man was arrested in Barnet, north London, on the same day. A PREMIER League international footballer arrested on suspicion of rape has been re-arrested for two more attacks against a different woman. The player, who is in his late 20s and is due to play at the World Cup in Qatar in November, was detained yesterday after six police cars swooped on a gated North London address. Scotland Yard confirmed the footballer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken into custody and subsequently bailed until August. He was quizzed for at least 15 hours over an alleged attack which is said to have taken place during a holiday in the Mediterranean last month when two further allegations came to light. Cops today said the man had been further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape in 2021 against a different woman. Emmanuel Macron’s newly appointed minister of European affairs has previously accused the Conservative Party of staging the Brexit referendum in order to gain more parliamentary power. Mr Macron, the French president, conducted a cabinet reshuffle on Monday following a bruising election in which his centrist alliance lost control of parliament . Among his new appointees is Laurence Boone, who in March 2017 said Brexit was a “political decision made by the Conservative government” so they could enter the general elections with “a united Conservative position”. The former Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development chief economist also argued that a “lack of understanding” amongst the British public about “how the EU works” contributed to the Brexit vote. Two Burmese men sentenced to death for the murder of two British backpackers in 2014 have lost their appeal against their sentence. The bodies of Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were found on a beach on the Thai island of Koh Tao in September 2014. Police said Ms Witheridge had been raped and bludgeoned to death and Mr Miller had died from blows to the head. Thailand convicted two migrant workers from Myanmar, Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, of their murder in December 2015. Lawyers for the pair argued that DNA evidence used to convict the men case had not been collected or treated in accordance with internationally accepted standards. Advertisement In their 198-page appeal they argued that the DNA evidence should be discounted. The investigation into the deaths of the two tourists was heaped with controversy at the time, and Thai police were widely criticised for their handling of the case.
