Lorenzo Reyes USA TODAY Published 1:24 PM EDT Jul 31, 2019 Tom Brady is three days shy of turning 42. He’s about to enter his 20th season with the New England Patriots. And it sounds like retirement is still a ways off. “I have a great time,” Brady said Wednesday in a news conference after a training camp practice. “I love this sport. I’ve loved playing it since I was a kid. It’s hard for me to imagine doing anything else in life. I love playing ball, so to still be out here at 41, soon to be 42, it’s pretty good.” Brady has hinted in the past that he plans to play until his mid-40s, at times mentioning 45 as a possible age for retirement, but he continues to be one of the game’s most effective and efficient quarterbacks. He has helped lead the Patriots to the last three Super Bowls and has won two of them, including Super Bowl LIII in February over the Los Angeles Rams. He completed 65.8% of his passes in 2018 for 4,355 … [Read more...] about Patriots’ Tom Brady: Hard ‘to imagine doing anything else’
Rams patriots super bowl
Sean McVay, who coached the Los Angeles Rams to their first Super Bowl appearance in 17 years, has signed a five-year contract extension with the NFL club, the team announced Friday. McVay has gone 24-8 in two seasons guiding the Rams, delivering their first playoff berth since 2004 in the 2017 season and into the championship game of the 2018 campaign, falling 10-3 to New England this past February. "I'm very thankful to be a Ram for many years to come," McVay said. The Rams open training camp this week for the league's 100th season hoping to take the final step and capture their first NFL crown since winning the 2000 Super Bowl while based in St. Louis. McVay, 33, is signed through the 2023 campaign and with the team moving into a new stadium next year should help stabilize the Rams' recent success. The new deal replaces the final three years McVay had on the contract his signed with the Rams in January 2017 at age 30 as the youngest coach in modern NFL history after serving as … [Read more...] about NFL Rams ink coach McVay to five-year contract extension
Nate Davis USA TODAY Published 7:29 AM EDT Jul 22, 2019 Take it from me, few things are more fun (if thankless) than the prediction business. So, with training camp doors swinging open, it's time to reveal my now-annual NFL record projections. The methodology? Using the latest pre-camp info, I predict all 256 regular-season games on the 2019 schedule, letting the chips fall where they may. From there, I add bonus prognostications for all 11 postseason contests. The results? Well, I've correctly forecast a Super Bowl eight months ahead of schedule (Seahawks over Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII) ... and also had some spectacular misses, including way-off-base outlooks for Seattle and Indianapolis just a year ago (both teams reached the postseason, of course, avoiding last-place finishes I envisioned). But 2018 produced extra fun when Seahawks LBs Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright kindly (and correctly) dismissed my predictive powers. Wagner even followed up to rib me after … [Read more...] about 2019 NFL record predictions: Will Patriots return to Super Bowl?
Nate Davis USA TODAY Published 8:50 PM EDT Apr 27, 2019 Time for my least favorite aspect of NFL draft season — the reactionary, postmortem grades NFL readership seems to demand the minute after Mr. Irrelevant has been announced. PSA — this is a largely pointless drill, and a legitimate report card can't fairly be issued until 2022. But I'll play along and submit my annual, way-too-early, impromptu evaluations before all of these players have even set foot onto a pro practice field. Please note, I strive to assess each club's class holistically, assessing the players on merit and the associated costs of trades past and present that shape each group. Onward ... TRACKER: Round 1 | Round 2-3 | Round 4-7 (Teams listed alphabetically by city within each grade tier.) Cleveland Browns: A You reel in a player the caliber of WR Odell Beckham Jr., especially in his prime, at the cost of your first rounder (plus a bit more), then you probably … [Read more...] about 2019 NFL draft grades by team: Patriots rank high, Giants sit low
Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz USA TODAY Published 10:07 PM EDT Apr 17, 2019 The 2019 NFL season doesn't begin until September, but fans now can start making their plans for the fall. Wednesday's full release of the regular-season schedule laid the framework for the league's 100th season. And while next week's NFL draft could add some intriguing subplots, there already are a host of rematches, reunions and rare showdowns that stand out among the rest of the matchups. Here are the top 10 regular-season games for the 2019 NFL season: 10. Packers at Bears, Sept. 5 (Week 1) To kick off its centennial campaign, the NFL bucked the tradition of having its defending champions host the opener and instead will train the spotlight on its longest-running rivalry. Last year's Week 1 showdown between the Packers and Bears was one of 2018's best clashes, with Aaron Rodgers throwing three second-half touchdowns after a knee injury to power Green Bay to a 24-23 win. Chicago, however, went on … [Read more...] about NFL schedule 2019: Top 10 games heavy on Chiefs, Patriots, Browns
