ANIMAL activist group PETA has caused outrage in Sydney after barbecuing a fake dog in Pitt Street shopping centre in a bid to stop people from eating meat this Australia Day. Shoppers and children have been left traumatised after they saw an artificial dog being grilled in front of them, while covered in roasted blood. PETA stood in the middle of the shopping centre under a banner that read “If You Wouldn’t Eat a Dog, Why Eat a Lamb? Go Vegan!” The activist group's aim was to raise awareness for the idea that dogs are “no different to lamb, cows or chicken”. PETA’s Emily Rice told news.com.au the demonstration was “thought-provoking”. She said: “It’s not gruesome but it’s no different to when you’d walk past a Peking duck hanging in a shop window or a pig on a spit at a wedding."
