Museums are facing pressure to return “stolen” artefacts to India after a council voted to repatriate a 14th century sword in a landmark vote. Glasgow councillors have backed a proposal to send back seven items taken out of India that eventually found their way into exhibitions across the city. Documents submitted to Glasgow City Council show officials from the High Commission of India lodged a request in January for the return of six artefacts “stolen” from Hindu temples and shrines in the 19th century. In March, an additional application made on behalf of the Indian Government asked for a 14th century tulwar, a sword used for ceremonial events, and its scabbard to be brought back after they were scavenged from the Deccan plateau. The items will now be transported to India after councillors recommended their return along with objects looted from Nigeria and belongings taken from a group of massacred Native Americans . The outcome was celebrated as the largest … [Read more...] about Glasgow City Council to return ‘stolen’ artefacts to India

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2020: How to watch, live stream
In keeping with the motto that "the show must go on," the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will continue for the 94th year, but this time around it'll happen without throngs of people lining the route. On Thursday, floats, the Rockettes and numerous other performers will make their way down a shortened parade route in a televised-only event. In keeping with tradition, some of NBC's biggest faces, including Today anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and weatherman Al Roker, will take charge of the broadcast. The parade will be streamed on NBC so viewers will have the opportunity to watch the celebration on their televisions, as well as on YouTube through Verizon's channel. The live stream will be hosted by Mario Lopez and kick off at 9 a.m. eastern, the same time NBC's coverage begins. Roker has been co-hosting the parade since 1995 and Guthrie has had the responsibility since 2012. This will be the second year that Kotb is serving as co-host for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. … [Read more...] about Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2020: How to watch, live stream
Thanksgiving air travel down 60 percent from last year, as officials tell people to stay home
In a sign that many people are heeding officials' request to stay home for Thanksgiving, airplane travel in the days leading up to Thanksgiving is down about 60 percent from the same time last year. Cases of a new coronavirus in the United States have now surpassed 12 million. With spikes in cases occurring across the country, deaths on Tuesday were higher than they've been in six months. Officials urged people to stay home and imposed quarantine requirements for out-of-state visitors. While more people are traveling than health experts would like, there's been a significant decrease from the usual holiday influx via plane travel. Historically, more people travel around Thanksgiving than any other time of the year, and the Wednesday before the turkey-centric holiday is the busiest travel day of the year. However, as has been the case since the pandemic started, the outbreak stunted travel around the holiday. About 1.52 million fewer people traveled on Tuesday than on the Tuesday … [Read more...] about Thanksgiving air travel down 60 percent from last year, as officials tell people to stay home

In the second half of the 20th century, many North American archaeologists agreed on the idea that the Clovis people had been the first to reach the Americas. Their ancestors were thought to have crossed a land bridge linking Siberia to Alaska during the last ice age, but this land bridge — known as Beringia — later disappeared underwater as the ice slowly melted. COVID: On the road with the ‘vaccine convoys’ critical to keeping up the fight against coronavirus
It is difficult to know what COVID is doing to the people of Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) says the death toll has been vastly undercounted in much of the world, but poor data collection in most African countries makes it difficult to assess the true impact on the continent. Evidence on COVID -related deaths in South Africa suggests there are serious grounds for concern. Experts at South Africa’s Medical Research Council believe hundreds of thousands of deaths have been lost in the paperwork. The real death toll is thought to be three times the official number of 101,000. Health officials are also grappling with worryingly low rates of vaccination in many African countries. As a whole, only 17% of Africans have been fully vaccinated against COVID, a rate that lags far behind other parts of the world - like Europe (65.7%), Asia (69%), and South America (74.5%). These dismal numbers are compounded by the fact that the drive to vaccinate the public in … [Read more...] about COVID: On the road with the ‘vaccine convoys’ critical to keeping up the fight against coronavirus
‘All The Babies Are In The Wrong Bodies?’: Bill Maher Questions Trans Explosion In Epic Rant | The Daily Wire
“Real Time” host Bill Maher unloaded on the strident pro-transgender movement in a Friday night rant that once again underscored the liberal personality’s penchant for calling out the left’s sacred cows . While praising tolerance for adults who reject their biological gender, Maher questioned why so many children seem to be getting encouraged to become trans and said it should be okay to ask questions about the relatively new social phenomenon. “If something about the human race is changing at a previously unprecedented rate, we have to at least discuss it,” Maher said. “Broken down over time, the LGBT population of America seems to be roughly doubling every generation.” If this spike in trans children is all biological, why is it regional? Either Ohio is shaming them or California is creating them. pic.twitter.com/t3Tx23MOsu — Bill Maher (@billmaher) May 21, 2022 Citing a recent Gallup poll, Maher noted that less than 1% of Americans born before 1946 identified … [Read more...] about ‘All The Babies Are In The Wrong Bodies?’: Bill Maher Questions Trans Explosion In Epic Rant | The Daily Wire
