Hey, do you guys know Wagon Wheel? Sometimes the week before a column is due I have a total blank about what to write about – people can only take so much of the adventures of Hank the pound mutt and Janis the passive aggressive rabbit. A couple of times, I have thrown it out there in Facebook land for ideas for column subjects. This week, I had some interesting suggestions – and I am using none of them. It is a helpful process, however – so please don’t stop sending me potentially terrible column topics. No, I won’t be writing about the song Wagon Wheel – written by Bob Dylan back in 1973 (well the chorus was, anyway). A quiz night hosted at Sussex Yacht Club managed to raise hundreds for the Friends of Shoreham Fort. The event organised by Sarah Brierley was attended by more than 70 people making up 17 teams. The quiz consisted of eight rounds of questions and it was compered by Gary Baines, chairman of the Friends of Shoreham Fort. Blue Dawg Entertainments hosted additional games during the breaks where cash prizes were on offer. All the winners donated their prize back to the charity. A raffle was also drawn where winners were rewarded with a small range of prizes.The winning quiz team, Beach Bums, was awarded a breakfast and hot drink voucher each supplied by Auntie Sarah’s on Shoreham High Street. Quiz organiser Sarah Brierley said: “I would like to thank everybody for coming along, their generosity and continued support for the Friends of Shoreham Fort.”A total of £549.66 was raised. A QUIZ night managed to raise a whopping £860 for Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation (CCSHF). On Saturday, March 16, Webheath’s The Rose and Crown pub, based on Heathfield Road, had more than 90 people attend its quiz night. The event was organised by quiz master Tom Wainwright, who says the charity is close to his heart.
