Three Girls star Maxine Peake threatened to quit BBC series The Village after discovering her co-star John Simm was due to be paid “significantly” more. The actors played husband and wife in the 2013 series, but after being cast in the role, Maxine discovered there would be a gender pay gap between the two stars, and declined the part.
