PRINCE William and Kate Middleton must follow the same strict rules as others seated within the Royal Box at Wimbledon. Everyone that is sat in the Royal Box at Wimbledon has been personally invited by the Chairman of the All England Club. Those lucky enough to be invited must meet expectations not required of sports fans seated elsewhere. And all guests - including the Royal Family - must dress in smart attire. Wimbledon advises this means wearing a suit or jacket, plus a tie for men. However, the main rule that Prince William and Kate Middleton must follow is that they are not allowed to wear hats, in order to not block anyone's view. Queen baffled by school girl on scooter in hilarious resurfaced video
A bizarre clip from an old royal visit showing Queen Elizabeth II watching an elementary school pupil ride a scooter on her belly in apparent bemusement has resurfaced and gone viral. Video newly posted to Instagram appeared to come from Elizabeth's June 2017 visit to Mayflower Primary School, in Tower Hamlets, East London, alongside Prince Philip. The occasion had a poignant backdrop as it was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the bombing of the school during World War I, when it was known as Upper North Street School. However, it contained a number of awkward moments, including when the queen found herself watching a school girl pull herself along with her hands while lying flat on a scooter. An Instagram reel of the footage garnered 224k likes with users commenting on the perplexed look on the then 91-year-old's face. A caption on one version of the videos, by account thehouseofwindsorr, read: "The Queen has no idea what's going on." Queen’s job description is rewritten to reduce ‘must-do’ duties
The Queen’s role has been rewritten by Buckingham Palace, as it removes duties she “must fulfil” as monarch and entrusts more to the Prince of Wales. The Queen’s “official duties” have been edited in the palace’s annual report for the first time in at least a decade, to take out specific events such as the State Opening of Parliament that were previously considered necessary by “constitutional convention”. The new version, published following the Platinum Jubilee, places greater emphasis on the support of the wider Royal family. According to the Sovereign Grant report, signed off by Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, the Queen’s role still comprises two key elements: Head of State and Head of Nation. As Head of State, the “formal constitutional concept”, the Queen “must fulfil” specific duties. These were previously laid out as a 13-point list, including the State Opening of Parliament, the appointment of the Prime Minister, and paying and receiving state … [Read more...] about Queen’s job description is rewritten to reduce ‘must-do’ duties
The Queen’s revised responsibility is just reward for her magnificent reign
It beggars belief, when you think about it, that the Queen is fulfilling the same role at the age of 96 that she first stepped into 70 years ago. Parachuted into the job earlier than anyone hoped, having lost her beloved father at 25, she has grown from young wife and mother to grandmother and now great-grandmother with the world at her feet in admiration. Through 14 prime ministers and 13 US presidents, the growth of the Commonwealth and loss of realms, she has ploughed on steadily with the same calendar of events and constitutional duties without let-up. Now, there has been a subtle, quiet tweak to those duties from Buckingham Palace itself. Out go the specific promises to always be at the State Opening of Parliament and to travel overseas, and in comes more support from her family. It was already happening in practice, of course. But for an institution that changes at a deliberately glacial pace in most things, the decision to write it down is striking. It … [Read more...] about The Queen’s revised responsibility is just reward for her magnificent reign
The Queen and the tale of the missing Diamond Diadem
Posing for her portrait in the Throne Room of Buckingham Palace, the Queen looks - as always - as if she was born to wear the Diamond Diadem. As it happened, she was not wearing it at all. The famous diadem, which has been captured on coins, banknotes, postage stamps and worn at key moments throughout the Queen’s reign, was in fact added an entire year after the painting was completed via the medium of cellophane. The coronation portrait , painted by Sir Herbert James Gunn in 1953, is to be included in a new Platinum Jubilee display at Windsor Castle, with its full story told for the first time. Curators will reveal how Sir Herbert added the Diamond Diadem as an afterthought, painting it onto a piece of transparent cellophane laid over the canvas as a test before asking the Queen’s approval. Remarkably, the painting had already been on public display at the Royal Academy with the bare-headed Queen before the artist and sitter agreed it could be improved. The finished … [Read more...] about The Queen and the tale of the missing Diamond Diadem
Queen could strip cheese company of royal warrant over £1.5m pollution fine
The Queen could revoke a royal warrant for her favourite cheddar cheese after the dairy company received a £1.5 million river fine for polluting a river. Royal warrants are issued to favoured suppliers to the monarch , and the honour is held by the Davidstow Creamery in Cornwall, which was last week fined by the Environment Agency for discharging waste into the nearby river Iffy. The Queen could strip the warrant from the cheddar producer, it is understood, following the waste discharges which killed fish and afflicted nearby residents with an “eggy” odour. Buckingham Palace sources have indicated that all suppliers are expected to adhere to environmental standards, and that warrants are constantly reviewed and can be revoked at any time. Warrants are currently held by major suppliers favoured by the Royal family , including Bollinger, Fortnum and Mason, Jaguar Land Rover, and Waitrose. Biological waste Doubt over the honour bestowed on Davidstow Creamery comes after … [Read more...] about Queen could strip cheese company of royal warrant over £1.5m pollution fine
