A US expert claims Russia is "withering" before our eyes, slamming the country's invasion of Ukraine as "pathetic" amid the assassination attempts against three pro-Russian officials in the last fortnight alone. The former US Defence Secretary, James Mattis, hit out at the "immoral" and "operationally stupid" war started by Vladimir Putin against Ukraine at the Seoul Forum 2022 on Friday (July 1). He said: “We have a saying in America, we say that nations with allies thrive, nations without allies wither and we’re watching Russia wither before our eyes right now. Why Britain faces a ‘1937 moment’ in Ukraine
The head of the British Army has likened the country's current defence situation in the wake of Russia's "brutal aggression" to the lead up to the Second World War, warning Britain is facing its "1937 moment". In an address on Tuesday, Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Patrick Sanders, is set to say that Britain's armed forces must be prepared to "fight and win" to prevent the war from expanding across Europe. It comes as Russia's relentless invasion of Ukraine becomes deadlier by the day, with Vladimir Putin posing one of the largest threats to peace and democracy ever known. Here is what the Army chief's comments mean. What happened in 1937? Neville Chamberlain became Britain's prime minister on May 28, 1937 and on the brink of the Second World War, pursued a policy of appeasement in a bid to prevent Adolf Hitler from dragging Europe into another world war. Mr Chamberlain hoped to prevent war at all costs. "I am myself a man of peace to the depths of my … [Read more...] about Why Britain faces a ‘1937 moment’ in Ukraine

Russia says last Ukrainian-held town in the Luhansk region has fallen
Russian forces on Saturday claimed victory in the battle for the last Ukrainian-held town in the Luhansk region, an important step in Vladimir Putin's mission to conquer the Donbas. Pro-Russian forces posted videos on social media of them placing a red "victory banner" in the centre of Lysychansk at the Memorial of the Fallen. Russian newswires also started to describe Lysychansk as having been "liberated" on Saturday. "Lysychansk has been taken and is under the control of the allied forces," a RIA Novosti correspondent reported. Soldiers were now conducting a mopping-up operation , according to Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen leader whose soldiers are among those fighting there. "The trap has closed and Lysychansk is now completely surrounded by our united forces," he said. Mr Kadyrov has previously proved an unreliable witness, but that claim was also echoed by separatist officials. "Today the Luhansk popular militia and Russian forces occupied the last strategic … [Read more...] about Russia says last Ukrainian-held town in the Luhansk region has fallen

Grand Prix Priest who ran on British GP track ended up starring on Britain’s Got Talent
The Formula One travelling circus heads to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix this weekend with the knowledge that while things may get wild on the track between the drivers, the spectators also like to get involved from time to time. The legendary racecourse is a firm favourite on the motorsport calendar, and will remain so until at least 2024 following the latest contract extension. World champion Max Verstappen will aim to extend his lead over his rivals in this season's rankings, while Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to put a disappointing campaign so far behind him to achieve a historic ninth victory at Silverstone. There have been plenty of iconic British Grand Prix racing memories on the track, such as Nigel Mansell's battle with Ayrton Senna in 1991 and Michael Schumacher's sensational win in the rain in 1998. However, the British Grand Prix has also been host to its fair share of wild moments, and perhaps none more so than Neil Horan's unexpected cameo.
