Grieving relatives of Payton Gendron’s victims and locals yesterday told of their devastation after the white supremacist’s murderous rampage left 10 people dead. The twisted 18-year-old killer launched his racist massacre after calling for London mayor Sadiq Khan to be slaughtered and published a 180-page hate-filled manifesto. Two people were also injured and 11 of those he shot were black. He also mentioned a number of UK towns and court cases, including the Asian grooming gang trial in Rotherham. Gendron live streamed the bloodbath as he tore through the Tops Friendly supermarket in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday. He had reportedly scrawled the N-word on his rifle. Welsh Secretary Simon Hart also condemned it as "idiotic" and "insensitive", telling BBC Two's Politics Live: "It attempts to make light of a really serious situation, I despair when I read stuff like that." Do driver awareness courses make roads safer?
Danny Shaw @DannyShawBBC on Twitter Published 22 June 2016 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Early on a Saturday morning I found myself in the basement of a hotel in the company of 12 strangers. The air conditioning was on at full blast; the atmosphere between us was also rather chilly. This was our "sentence" for committing a minor motoring offence - and none of us wanted to be there. We were on a driver awareness course called What's Driving Us? It was that, or accept a £100 fine and three penalty points. No contest, really. Over the next three hours there were discussions, presentations and role-play. None of us embraced it with any great enthusiasm - we just wanted to "tick the box" and let the weekend begin. My crime? I had jumped a red light driving up the A10 in north London and was spotted by a CCTV camera. The road ahead … [Read more...] about Do driver awareness courses make roads safer?

Ban MPs accused of sexual offences from Parliament during police investigations, says union
Published 1 hour ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A union has called for MPs accused of sexual offences to be banned from Parliament while inquiries take place. The general secretary of Prospect, Mike Clancy, said the current voluntary arrangement is not sufficient. He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that Parliament is "a workplace like any other" and it should not be "beyond the reach of normal practices". It comes after a Tory MP arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault was asked to stay away by party whips. Westminster has been hit with a number of allegations concerning MPs' behaviour in recent months, with newspaper reports claiming 56 MPs had been reported to Parliament's complaints scheme over accusations of sexual harassment. Mr Clancy, whose union represents a number of parliamentary workers, said Parliament "should be a space in which the … [Read more...] about Ban MPs accused of sexual offences from Parliament during police investigations, says union
Have we had enough of Netflix?
By Jennifer Meierhans & Alex Taylor Published 22 April Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Trying to watch some of Netflix's more recent series all the way through, says Paul Weiner, feels a bit like cramming frankfurters down your throat in a hotdog eating contest. Readers outside the US may not share the American enthusiasm for competitive hotdog swallowing. But maybe they can relate to the feeling. We've all spent the last few years, the last two especially, binge-watching, indiscriminately, too mesmerised to click the off-button. Are we maybe just a little bit sick of it? That's the fear seizing executives in Netflix's boardroom right now. That Mr Weiner, a 28-year-old artist from Denver, Colorado, who loved the streaming service at first, especially for watching old favourites like Star Trek and The Office, typifies a new mood. That after years of skyrocketing … [Read more...] about Have we had enough of Netflix?
