The Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) is drafting a sweeping bill to address the legal limbo affecting prostitution, which is neither regulated or criminalized in this country. Experts estimate that Spain has a €3.7 billion sex industry Spain’s governing party wants to penalize clients and those who provide apartments for prostitution activities. The sex workers themselves would not be targeted in any way, as they would be regarded as victims. The bill is inspired by the abolitionist model pioneered by Sweden (see side box). Under the terms of the new legislation, “gentlemen’s clubs” – there are an estimated 1,500 in Spain, or three for every hospital – would be shut down through court orders. A FLAMBOYANT brothel-owning Republican has won a seat in Nevada’s State Assembly – despite dying three weeks ago. Dennis Hof, a colourful character and legal pimp, secured 68.3 per cent of the vote in a landslide result which saw his rival, Democrat Lesia Romanov, trail well behind with a miserable 31.7 per cent. He died last month at the age of 72 after his body was found at the Love Ranch, a legal licensed brothel in Crystal in Nevada, just north of Pahrump. The reality TV star ran sex ranches and during his campaign had nicknamed himself the “Trump from Pahrump” in reference to the town in which he lived. Amsterdam could let prostitutes operate outside the city's famed red-light district in a bid to clean up the area and improve conditions for the women who work there, officials said Friday. Sex workers in their glass-fronted booths in the Dutch capital complain that they are subject to gawping from camera-toting tourists, whose presence also deters potential clients. City authorities are therefore debating a plan to give sex workers licences to work elsewhere in Amsterdam, for example in safe, hotel-style purpose-built brothels. The plan is being pushed by Amsterdam's first female mayor, Femke Halsema, and has been formally proposed by three of the parties in the city's governing coalition - Groenlinks, the progressive D66 and the Socialist Party.
