Australia's prime minister on Friday said he "understands" why Italy blocked the planned export of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine . Nevertheless, Australia asked the European Commission on Friday to review the decision. Italy, backed by the European Union's executive arm, used export controls to stop around 250,000 doses leaving for Australia earlier this week, after the drug manufacturer failed to fulfill its European Union order. "Australia has raised the issue with the European Commission through multiple channels," Australian Health Minister Greg Hunt told reporters on Friday. Pondering love and loss amid COVID at the Berlinale
The opening scenes of "Jole Dobe Na" — Bengali for "Those Who Do Not Drown" — are apocalyptic. The camera moves slowly, visually documenting parts of an abandoned building, its doors and walls stripped of paint, until it reaches a large window that overlooks the courtyard. A man's voice says, "What if I told you, all this never happened. We are fine and we will be fine. [That] The whole catastrophe was a dream after all? They promised, science could do everything, cure the sick, bring Lazarus back to life…" Having lived most of the last year under COVID-induced lockdowns, these words seem to reflect our inability to grasp the "new normal" consisting of social distancing and isolation, and our collective vulnerability as humans. But "Jole" is not about the pandemic. Its actors managed to finish filming the movie shortly before the lockdown began and COVID-19 did not really influence the movie's storyline. But in the current global context, the story raises a couple of important … [Read more...] about Pondering love and loss amid COVID at the Berlinale
New Zealand is rocked by FOURTH earthquake as tsunami warning is eased after disturbing video shows huge wave surge
NEW Zealand was hit by a fourth earthquake as video showed a tsunami wave surging towards the shore. Terrified residents had fled to high ground ground before another quake struck the Kermadec Islands around noon on Friday. The 6.5 magnitude quake struck at 12.12pm local time and followed one of 8.1 by the islands, off northeastern New Zealand on Friday morning. New Zealand's National Emergency Management Agency issued a tsunami warning after the earlier earthquake struck around 8.29am time at a depth of six miles. People across the country had been woken up by a rumbling sound as their houses shook after the quakes struck. Video showed large surges of water coming ashore at Tokomaru Bay on the East Coast of the country. Gina Chaffey-Aupouri, who has lived there for the last 60 years, told Stuff.co.nz she has never seen anything like it as she watched from the hill above as the water move in strange ways. “This is the first time I’ve ever seen a surge," she … [Read more...] about New Zealand is rocked by FOURTH earthquake as tsunami warning is eased after disturbing video shows huge wave surge
Legendary TV show You Are What You Eat is being rebooted — without Gillian McKeith
IT has been nearly 15 years since Gillian McKeith became known as the Awful Poo Lady for looking at the contents of dieters’ toilets to help them shift weight. And I can reveal that the classic telly format You Are What You Eat is making a long-awaited comeback. But it will not be on Channel 4 or fronted by Gillian. I’m told legendary TV presenter Trisha Goddard , who is making a big UK comeback following a decade in the States, will host the reboot. It will air on Channel 5 later this year. A source said: “It’s a great format and one that was really well received back in the day. “The production company, CPL, were keen to breathe new life into it, and who better to do that than Trisha, who is so well loved and respected by viewers. “They hope she will bring a fresh impetus to a popular show. And Channel 5 were delighted to give her and the series a new home.” Trisha — signed to leading UK agency InterTalent — said: “I am thrilled to have been asked to … [Read more...] about Legendary TV show You Are What You Eat is being rebooted — without Gillian McKeith

The British singer-songwriter has revealed he has landed his first acting role in an upcoming film after taking secret acting lessons and auditioning in lockdown. In an exclusive interview, he said: “There’s actually a couple of really exciting projects that I’m involved in and we’re trying to get up and running in terms of my acting.
