New Polish school textbook provokes anger over section on fertility
Poland's conservative government has been criticised over a new school textbook that appears to disparage in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment. Opponents say the country's school curriculum is attempting to indoctrinate children with traditional ideologies. Poland’s governing Law and Justice party (PiS) has close ties to the Roman Catholic church and regularly promotes conservative social policies. Amid strict abortion laws, PiS has also ended a national programme that helped fund fertility treatments for couples. The country's education ministry has dismissed the latest criticism and pointed out that the controversial book in question does not directly refer to IVF. The Oscar-winning actor put on his trainers and suit as he stretched his legs while walking around the block of his mansion. Despite the sunshine, the 82-year-old wore a black suit jacket and pants and opted for a black shirt. Al also wore a black scarf and dark sunglasses and put headphones in as he enjoyed his exercise. The region's two suppliers, SSE and Firmus, last increased their prices at the start of July. The price of gas on global markets has surged in the last two months. Russia has reduced its supplies of gas to Europe, increasing competition for gas produced in other countries. Next week the UK is expected to take delivery of a shipment of gas from Australia. The regulator, John French, warned that households will face further gas price rises of up to 30% in the coming weeks. The liquid natural gas (LNG) is due to arrive on 22 August, according to commodities analysts Kpler. Australia doesn't usually sell gas this far afield, but European countries have been seeking alternatives to Russian gas following the invasion of Ukraine. The UK stopped importing gas from Russia in April. While the UK bought only a small fraction of its gas from Russia before the conflict began, the country is connected to the European gas network. Continental Europe is much more reliant on Russian gas, and deliveries via the Nordstream pipeline have already been curtailed.
