The new multi-million pound Stansted Airport College will officially open its doors tomorrow (December 13). The £11million technical college is the first of its kind at a major UK airport and is a joint venture between Harlow College and London Stansted. MP Richard Harrington, minister for business and industry, will officially open the college, alongside chair of the education select committee and Harlow MP Robert Halfon. The new site aims to fill a growing skills gap in the aviation industry and other STEM subject areas through its courses including aircraft engineering, business studies, logistics, hospitality, customer service and more. Around 500 students are expected to be taught there per year. Following a groundbreaking ceremony in November 2017, government minister for climate change and industry, Claire Perry MP, hailed the new technical college as “truly innovative”. Walt Disney World is filled with magic and there are plenty of hidden treasures to be found - but did you know the theme park has its own airport? Located east of the Magic Kingdom, right by the parking lot, Lake Buena Vista Airport (also known as Lake Buena Vista STOLport) is so small it doesn't have a hangar, just a short runway and a small building. But in true Disney form, the airport has a magical twist; the runway boasts grooves which, when planes reached speeds of over 45mph, would play Pinocchio's 'When You Wish Upon A Star'. Unfortunately if you're hoping to book flights, you're going to be disappointed - the airport hasn't run flights since the 1980s, while the grooves were reportedly removed in 2008. Nowadays, it's disused and looks a bit more like a parking lot. (Not quite as magical). Still, for those with a curious nature, there are ways to spot the runway. For example, some Disney fans have reportedly caught a glimpse of the airport from World Drive, or if you keep your … [Read more...] about Walt Disney World’s abandoned airport had a magical surprise on its runway
Auster Autocrat outside terminal Picture: COURTESY OF IPSWICH AIRPORT ASSOCIATION It was once Ipswich’s gateway to the world, with a remarkable war-fighting history to boot. Stobart Group, the troubled owner of Southend Airport, today appointed a woman to its board as it looks to rebuild after a fierce boardroom row at the company. The firm said it would appoint co-founder of PR agency Citigate Dewe Rogerson Ginny Pulbrook as a non-executive director from 1 October 2018. Its shares grew five per cent in the morning after its announcement. The company has faced criticism for being one of only a few firms in the FTSE 350 who had no women sitting on its board. It follows a turbulent few months for the company, after former boss Andrew Tinkler attempted to topple chairman Iain Ferguson at the company's annual meeting last month. This prompted a string of lawsuits to be filed by either side, as Stobart accused its former chief executive of only acting in his own self-interest and of attempting to "line his own pockets". Stobart also announced the promotion of its group commercial director Nick Dilworth to chief operating officer and his appointment to the … [Read more...] about Southend Airport owner Stobart Group makes trio of appointments following bitter boardroom dispute
