The resignation of Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid could be the final blow for Boris Johnson's premiership after the political heavyweights attacked the PM's "lack of integrity", competence and leadership. The prime minister narrowly survived a confidence vote in him last month. Tory MPs voted by 211 to 148 in support of the PM, but the scale of the revolt against his leadership left him wounded. When Theresa May faced a confidence vote in 2018 she secured the support of 63% of her MPs - but was still forced out within six months. The prime minister saw 41% of his MPs vote against him, a worse result than Mrs May. Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid have quit Boris Johnson's government, leading a wave of resignations. The chancellor, who quit moments after Mr Javid shortly after 6pm, said: "The public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously. I recognise this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning." In his letter to the prime minister , Mr Javid said he could "no longer, in good conscience, continue serving in this government" as he referenced the tone and values of Mr Johnson reflecting "on your colleagues, your party and ultimately the country".
