Port Taranaki says it will continue its role in animal exports right up until the Government’s ban on the trade comes into force next year. From April 30 next year, exports of livestock by sea will be banned, following the Animal Welfare Amendment Bill, which passed in Parliament on Wednesday. Port Taranaki chief executive Simon Craddock said it had been aware of the ban for the past 18 months and respected the Government’s decision. “Port Taranaki is not an exporter. We provide a facility for exporters, and at the time of the initial announcement we made the decision to continue to support livestock export customers, as and when required, through to the ban. The former Spice Girl, 48 -- who has been away from the catwalk for two years -- joins Paris Fashion Week after a long stint presenting her clothes in New York and a brief dalliance with London. Her sophisticated office and evening wear has been a surprise hit with fashionistas ever since her debut show in 2008, confounding those who expected her to be another celebrity dilettante. Bosnian Serb nationalist firebrand Milorad Dodik says he respects Vladimir Putin and backs so-called "referendums" in occupied Ukraine on joining Russia. Dodik, who currently serves as the Bosnian Serb member of the three-way presidency, was speaking ahead of the general election in Bosnia on Sunday. A vocal supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dodik suggested the "referendums" in Ukraine -- which the West have slammed as being forced, illegal and rigged -- could be used in Bosnia. Dodik openly advocates tearing away Bosnia's Serb-dominated entity, the Republika Srpska (RS), and joining it with neighbouring Serbia. The division of the country into two main administrative units or entities -- the RS and the Bosniak-Croat majority Federation of BiH or FBiH -- is the result of the US and West-mediated Dayton Peace Accords, the peace deal that ended Bosnia's 1992-1995 war, which saw an estimated 100,000 people killed. "As for our political relations in … [Read more...] about ‘I respect Putin’: Bosnia’s Dodik backs ‘referendums’ in occupied Ukraine
Bosnia and Herzegovina is preparing for a general election on Sunday, 2 October. Here we explain how the election works, who the main parties and candidates are, and what the likely outcome might be in a country said to have the most complicated system of government in the world. How did Bosnia end up with the world’s most complex administration? The Balkan country of about 3.2 million is facing a difficult set of choices in its ninth general election since the first multi-party vote in 1990. At the time, Bosnia was still a part of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia — a communist country that soon crumbled and set off a series of wars and conflicts between 1991 and 1999. As one of the seven independent states that came out of the breakup, Bosnia experienced its own war between 1992 and 1995. Until recently, it was considered the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II. Bosnia remains extremely vulnerable to the increased nationalist … [Read more...] about Bosnia election explained: How does it work? Who is running? Who is likely to win?
A 25 éves Miran … [Read more...] about Boszniában miért kelt aggodalmat Oroszország ukrajnai háborúja?
[Read more...] about A boszniai mészáros ágyban, párnák közt fog meghalni – nem úgy, mint sokezer áldozata
A few miles down the Mersey from Labour’s conference in Liverpool, striking dockers are furious with their employer and Sir Keir Starmer. The 560 workers, today starting the second week of a fortnight-long stoppage, accuse the profitable Mersey Docks and Harbour Company of breaking promises and refusing to improve a pay offer that would reduce living standards. And they feel abandoned by the leader of a Labour Party formed to represent working people in Parliament. “We were hailed as key workers during the Covid pandemic and now the company’s treating us like peasants because they don’t want to give us a pay matching inflation,” said ship’s foreman Steve Saunderson, 34, on the picket line. The strikers enjoy huge public backing in Liverpool where passing car drivers toot horns and local football heroes Neville Southgate and Jamie Carragher voiced support. The dock workers say the pay rise they've been offered will see them worse off than before ( Image: Daily … [Read more...] about Striking Liverpool dock workers furious as ‘red Tory’ Keir Starmer refuses to meet them

After the final round of formal talks between officials, the prime minister said a deal was "all there". But the prime minister said Brussels had to be "commonsensical" to get it across the line, with both sides setting an October deadline to settle their differences. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for talks to "intensify". She is due to meet Mr Johnson on Saturday via video call to "take stock" of the situation and decide the next steps. Talks between chief negotiators Lord David Frost and Michel Barnier broke up earlier, without an agreement.
