Albion have topped a Premier League poll for matchday fan experience this season. The survey, which was conducted by Populous for the Premier League, saw almost 42,000 fans surveyed across all 20 top-flight clubs, with the Albion emerging with an overall score of 81.6 – compared to an average of 72.1 – ranking the club in first place. It is Brighton's first season in the Premier League after promotion from the Championship last year and the Seagulls are 13th with four games to go. Clubs were graded on a number of different criteria and Brighton scored particularly highly on how well the club is run, the overall positivity towards the club, the matchday atmosphere, the investment in facilities and the matchday magazine. Other areas that impressed were the welcome on arrival, stewarding, the club staff in general and the cleanliness of the stadium. Conmen who ran a lucrative sports broadcasting fraud in scores of pubs across the North East have been jailed for a total of nine years. John Dodds set up a sophisticated scam to provide illegal access to pay-TV, including Premier League football matches and other high profile events such as world championship boxing. A court heard his business partner, Jason Richards, also known as Jason Richard Graham, later joined in the worldwide fraud with “commander-in-chief” Dodds. They provided at least 270 pubs and clubs in the North East with access to a range of channels, causing losses estimated to be many millions a year and netting the fraudsters at least £1.5m. Newcastle Crown Court heard the impact of the offending was wide-ranging and caused damage to the FA Premier League, Sky, BT, law-abiding publicans who did not sign up to the con and thereby lost business and lawful customers of pay TV services who ended up footing the bill.
