Joe Root issues apology to Moeen Ali as all-rounder heads home from India

· February 16, 2021 ·

Joe Root has apologised to Moeen Ali after calling his pre-agreed departure from the India tour a 'choice' and leaving him open to unfair criticism. Moeen top scored in the 317-run hammering and took eight wickets in the match, but will now miss the third and fourth matches to spend time out of the bubble with his family just like every multi-format player has done this winter. But Root's unfortunate choice of words left Moeen open to unwarranted criticism that he has somehow turned his back on a tour after playing just one game. “Moeen has chosen to go home,” said Root originally. “It’s obviously been a very tricky tour for him. “Of course we wanted as many players available for as long as possible, but you also want them to be very comfortable here. “I think we’ve come to a point where he wants to get out of the bubble. That’s absolutely fair enough. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy decision for him, but it’s one we completely respect and understand.” Mirror Sport understands … [Read more...] about Joe Root issues apology to Moeen Ali as all-rounder heads home from India

Coronavirus UK news LIVE – Pfizer to test vaccine on CHILDREN aged between five to 11

· February 28, 2021 ·

BRITS have been warned not to "wreck this now" as England's deputy chief medical officer urged everyone to continue following the rules. Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said there were "some worrying signs that people are relaxing" in the coronavirus battle at "exactly the wrong time". He also alerted people who have already been vaccinated to the dangers of "taking their foot off the brake" and being tempted to break Covid-19 rules. He told a Downing Street briefing on Friday: "All the patients that I vaccinate... I say to them, 'Remember, all the rules still apply to you and all of us until we're in a much safer place'. It doesn't change because you've had your first dose of vaccine. "And so, please don't be tempted to think, 'Well, one home visit might be all right now the weather is getting better, going to be a nice weekend, one small gathering in your house won't really matter'. "So my key message tonight is look, this is all going very well but there are some worrying … [Read more...] about Coronavirus UK news LIVE – Pfizer to test vaccine on CHILDREN aged between five to 11

Disney films have special rules banning smoking, swearing and more

· February 23, 2021 ·

We don't know about you, but Disney films have certainly had the power to traumatise us over the years. Whether it is the death of Mufasa in The Lion King , the death of Bambi's mother in Bambi, or the entirety of The Black Cauldron, Disney has the power to bring a lot of emotions. However, there is a specific set of things you will not see in their films now. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019, Disney Film Chief Alan Horn made some revelations about how the the studio can utilise 20th Century Studios from the previous 21st Century Fox studios that they purchased that same year. Reflecting on the differences between Fox and Disney, he said: "With Fox, we can make movies that right now I say no to. "Take Bohemian Rhapsody , which is PG-13. It's a hit movie and very, very good. But there's no way we could make it under the Disney label because the characters smoke cigarettes and other content." So, it's clear that Disney films have a clear no smoking policy. … [Read more...] about Disney films have special rules banning smoking, swearing and more

Police officers at Greek universities: The culture clash continues

· January 27, 2021 ·

A poster hangs above the dean's office at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. Several hundred students have occupied the building on what would otherwise be a pretty empty campus these days, if it weren't for the students and an equal number of police facing off against them. The students are protesting a recent law that would see police stationed on university campuses. The government says the move is necessary to fight crime, but students and professors say essential freedoms are at stake in a country where universities have been an important part of Greek history. Fotini Tsibiridou is a professor at the University of Macedonia, the city's second largest university, and one of more than a thousand academics protesting the new law. "I'm afraid that a militaristic culture will be heading to campus," she said. "This doesn't fit with an environment based on liberal freedoms, open dialogue and critical thinking. When people think about police, they think about oppression and not about … [Read more...] about Police officers at Greek universities: The culture clash continues
