BBC’s Fergal Keane to explore PTSD in TV special after years reporting from war zones

· February 23, 2021 ·

BBC foreign correspondent Fergal Keane is to delve into his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for a Horizon special, talking frankly about the many years he has battled crippling anxiety and depression. The trusted BBC foreign correspondent is best-known for his decades of reporting from some of the world’s worst war zones. But as a result of his work, Fergal has long suffered from an acute form of PTSD. It's a year since he withdrew from conflict reporting and revealed his condition. Now Fergal, 60, is making a very personal film in which he explores his diagnosis and its impact. Where did the PTSD start and what caused it? Why does he suffer from it, when some other colleagues might appear - so far - to be unscathed by their experiences of war? Is there a genetic component? These questions will motivate Fergal’s investigation and contemplation throughout the film as he looks into the latest scientific thinking and undergoes therapy for the condition. Fergal says: “I … [Read more...] about BBC’s Fergal Keane to explore PTSD in TV special after years reporting from war zones

Tiger Woods was unaware of how ‘gravely’ he was injured after car crash, says first officer on scene

· February 24, 2021 ·

Tiger Woods did not appear to be "aware of how gravely he was injured" after his car crash in California, the first officer on the scene has said. The 45-year-old golf star suffered serious leg injuries when his car hit a kerb and then a tree before rolling several times on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning. No other cars were involved. Carlos Gonzalez, a deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, told NBC News he arrived within minutes of a 911 call from a member of the public. Asked if Woods was aware of his injuries, the officer said: "He didn't mention anything. I don't think he was aware of how gravely he was injured at the time. Advertisement "It could be a mixture of adrenaline. It could have been shock. "Again, it was very quick - the moment I arrived from the moment he rolled over - so I don't know if he had time to fully assess his injuries." Secondary school kids WON’T all go back on March 8 as they have to be tested first, Gavin Williamson confirms

· February 24, 2021 ·

SECONDARY school kids won't all be able to go back on the dot on March 8 as they have to be tested first, Gavin Williamson confirmed today. The Education Secretary stressed that schools could have a few days to get all their children back in as they would need to organise dishing out the tests. Secondary school kids are to be tested twice a week under fresh plans to get children back in the classroom from March 8 - with the first two done in schools. They must be done at least three days apart, meaning millions may not be going back until the week after. As officials said earlier this week, kids will be allowed a staggered return in order to sort out the system. Breakfast and after-school clubs and children's sport can also start again. Primary pupils will not have to be tested or wear masks. But all secondary school children must take four tests within the first fortnight of reopening. Teens will be free to attend class after their first negative test but … [Read more...] about Secondary school kids WON’T all go back on March 8 as they have to be tested first, Gavin Williamson confirms
