Covid cases will be ‘MISSED’ at UK border: Scientists warn of rise in infections over government allowing arrivals to choose ‘less accurate’ lateral flow tests to prove they are infection-free

· January 8, 2021 ·

Coronavirus cases could be missed at Britain's border following the government's decision to let travellers choose 'less accurate' lateral flow tests to prove they're Covid-free, scientists have warned.   Those arriving in the UK will be able to present negative PCR or lateral flow Covid tests as proof that they do not have coronavirus.  Grant Shapps has said nobody will be able to depart for Britain by plane, train or ferry unless they present a 'recognised' test result at check-in along with a valid passport and visa if required. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will also adopt the measure.   PCR tests can take longer because they are sent off to a lab to check for Covid, with some critics saying 72 hours could be too tight. Rapid 'lateral flow' tests can be turned around in minutes, but missed cases and false positives are more common. The difference has sparked concerns that Covid-positive travellers could present a negative test at the border to … [Read more...] about Covid cases will be ‘MISSED’ at UK border: Scientists warn of rise in infections over government allowing arrivals to choose ‘less accurate’ lateral flow tests to prove they are infection-free

Boris Johnson refuses to rule out making lockdown LONGER if South African variant continues to spread – but insists all vaccines being used should protect against death amid fears Oxford’s jab doesn’t work on mutant strain

· February 8, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson today refused to rule out extending lockdown if the South African variant continues to spread amid fears Oxford University's vaccine may not stop people falling ill with the mutant strain. An alarming study found the British-made jab had 'minimal effect' in preventing mild disease caused by the strain, suggesting vaccinated people may still be able to catch and spread it. One prominent SAGE adviser claimed the finding meant 'more restrictions might be needed for longer'. Pressed on whether there may need to be a delay to easing restrictions if the jab is proven to be less effective at reducing transmission of the South African variant, the Prime Minister said vaccines are 'going to offer a way out' and 'remain of massive benefit to our country' — but failed to dismiss the prospect of a lockdown extension. During a visit to a coronavirus test manufacturing facility in Derby, he said: 'We're very confident in all the vaccines that we're using. And I think it's … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson refuses to rule out making lockdown LONGER if South African variant continues to spread – but insists all vaccines being used should protect against death amid fears Oxford’s jab doesn’t work on mutant strain

WHO whitewash: Investigators back China’s claim that AUSTRALIAN BEEF could have caused Covid-19 – and demand there be ‘no further study’ of theory that it came from a Wuhan lab

· February 9, 2021 ·

World Health Organisation scientists have given credibility to Beijing's claim the Covid-19 pandemic may have started outside China and been brought in via frozen food imports. A team of 14 scientists investigating the origin of the pandemic wrapped up their month-long fact-finding mission by echoing Communist Party's assertions that 'cold-chain products' such as Australian beef, could have led to the initial outbreak. Peter Embarek, leader of the WHO team, said further studies should be carried out into whether the virus was imported into the country - possibly on frozen meats sold at the Huanan Seafood market in Wuhan where the first cluster of cases was detected in December 2019. WHO investigators also ruled out the possibility the virus leaked from a lab, calling it 'extremely unlikely' and declaring no further study should be undertaken into the theory. Boris tries to scare us into lockdown: Whitty launches new government Stay at Home drive backed up by terrifying ads of dying Covid patients as Britain suffers record 1,325 deaths and 68,000 cases in a single day

· January 8, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson last night begged families to stay at home as the Covid-19 death toll hit a grim new record - with the Government launching a new campaign blitz to scare people into obeying lockdown rules. England's Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty has appeared in adverts urging us to stay at home as the new variant of the virus rips across the country. Two terrifying new posters also show a patient dying in hospital and a healthcare worker wearing full PPE, warning Britons: 'If you go out, you can spread it. People will die.' Mr Johnson said that infections were rising at an alarming rate, despite the new national lockdown imposed at the start of the week. And he warned the only way to prevent thousands more deaths was to follow the rules. The Prime Minister said: 'I know the last year has taken its toll. 'But your compliance is now more vital than ever. Once again, I must urge everyone to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.' Another 1,325 Covid … [Read more...] about Boris tries to scare us into lockdown: Whitty launches new government Stay at Home drive backed up by terrifying ads of dying Covid patients as Britain suffers record 1,325 deaths and 68,000 cases in a single day

NOW Scotch looks scarce in EU! British shoppers battle to find custard creams and whisky as 20 M&S stores in France have empty shelves and Fortnum & Mason suspends all sales to Europe amid continued Brexit red tape chaos

· February 9, 2021 ·

What is the new paperwork delaying food exports from Britain to the EU? EU customs declarations and extra checks are now required on goods moving from Britain to the EU. This demands time-consuming paperwork which is then delayed further by customs checks. The new red tape includes: Export health certificate - Required for every food item to prove it is safe to eat. Sanitary and phytosanitary checks - For certain live plant and animal products including root vegetables, leafy vegetables and most fruits. Advertisement Scotch whisky has sold out in Paris and custard cremes are nowhere to be found for British expats in Belgium because of Brexit red tape chaos.
