Huawei pledges $2bn in effort to allay UK security concerns
The Chinese telecoms giant Huawei is to spend $2bn (£1.5bn) in an effort to alleviate British security services’ concerns about vulnerabilities in its products, capping a torrid week for the firm. In July, a British government centre established to verify the integrity of Huawei’s technology warned that it had security concerns about the company’s technology and could only provide “limited assurance” that risks to national security had been mitigated. On Thursday BT confirmed it was removing Huawei equipment from key areas of its 4G network over concerns about the Chinese firm’s presence in critical telecoms infrastructure. Both Huawei and the government declined to dispute the details of reports in the Financial Times and Reuters that the firm intends to make the investment in an effort to address concerns over national security risks. Dog accused of racist hate crime for fouling outside a house
A dog fouling outside of a house was one of 2,500 alleged hate crimes logged by the Metropolitan Police. The dubious allegations was investigated by the police in 2015 and 2016, including an envelope that had been opened and resealed, a disputed line call in a tennis match and a dead rat found in a garden. Police also logged a man telling library staff he was campaigning for Brexit and an accident involving a car that bore a Remembrance poppy. The 2,507 alleged hate incidents were revealed after a Freedom of Information request by the The Mail on Sunday. In the dog fouling incident, the log read: "An unknown dog has fouled outside of victim address and victim perceived this to be a racial incident." In another case, it was suggested a barking dog was a hate crime. Police wrote: "Suspect's dog barking at victim." Man stabbed outside village Christmas fair in broad daylight attack
A MAN has been stabbed outside a village Christmas fair in Kent this afternoon. The victim was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked yards from a family fete in Birchington, near Margate. Armed police raced to the scene at 2pm and a man was arrested. Cops said the attack was not connected to the Birchington Christmas fair. Kent Police confirmed the victim was knifed and airlifted to hospital. His condition is not known. Witnesses said the area was "swarming with police".A witness told Kent Online they heard "shouting and swearing" from what appeared to have been a fight on the street.
