It has been a 22 year stretch since the Offaly singer songwriter announced his arrival on the scene with Jelly Legs - the album that spawned To You I Bestow, which featured on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman’s stunning Romeo + Juliet - and 18 years since he departed the label that released that phenomenally successful debut. In the intervening two decades he has manned his own ship, from setting up Camcor Records to release his sophomore album, 24 Star Hotel (boasting July, the track that has become synonymous with the Irish summer), to crowd-funding on Pledge for his sixth studio album, the self-titled Mundy, which he released in 2015. However, while there may be six albums in his canon, it has not been plain sailing manning this ship of his, as the recession kicked in and he shouldered – and still does – all his own admin in relation to touring, gigs, his website, albums and the rest. “I’m one of these people who, at the start of the … [Read more...] about ‘You have to market yourself to a point of nearly embarrassment’ – Mundy talks crowdfunding, ageing, and upcoming US tour

ALMOST half of motorists struggle to get their heads around in-car tech, according to a study. Research revealed that despite motoring tech working to improve our driving experience, a large percentage are baffled by the amount of buttons and switches. Conducted by Jardine Motors Group, the study found over 50 per cent of drivers have no idea how to use features like lane keep assist, motorway speed alerts or even utilise their seat memory settings. And many admit to being clueless about how to enable sports mode or cruise control, while others have trouble operating self-parking. The study of 1,000 motorists who have bought a new car in the last three years showed over half of London drivers felt they were wasting a lot of the technology their car had to offer. Researchers discovered 32 per cent of new car owners are confused about how to operate the in-car sat nav, whilst four in 10 are clueless about their reverse sensors, climate control and heated seats. “Utter stupidity. The last thing any player wants” - Alan Shearer, 2018. “This match should never be played” - Louis van Gaal, 2014. “For us it was amazing to finish third ahead of some of the greatest teams in the world. It confirmed what a great World Cup we had and it was a nice way to finish” - Davor Suker, 1998. As a hungover England contemplates the prospect of a third-place play-off with Belgium on Saturday, most will probably agree with Shearer, who tweeted his dismay about the fixture on Thursday, and with van Gaal, who was speaking in 2014 before leading Holland against Brazil in the battle for bronze. But not everybody has hated it: Suker, for one, whose Croatia team finished third in 1998, establishing the country on the footballing map, or Sweden, who returned home in 1994 to national celebrations. What is the point of the third-place play-off? Well, for one you get some money. As of 2018, the prize money for winning the … [Read more...] about Just what is the point of the World Cup third place play-off? Examining sport’s least-loved fixture
