The show sees four pairs answer questions on various subjects, with the team with the highest score leaving at the end of each round until one remains. Then in the final round, the last pair standing get a choice of topics to try and find a Pointless answer to, with the chance of winning the jackpot if they succeed. If they fail to get a pointless answer, the jackpot rolls over to the next show, where another £1000 will be added. While some contestants have been lucky to win a large amount of money after a run of rollovers, most face the prospect of winning the basic £1000.
