Sucker Punch is hiring for a project that is blatantly Ghost Of Tsushima 2 but there’s still no sign of an official announcement. Neither they nor Sony has ever said anything official but it’s now plainly obvious that developer Sucker Punch is working on a sequel to its 2020 hit Ghost Of Tsushima . It was already a given based purely on the fact that the original was an unexpectedly big hit, but not for the first time Sucker Punch has been caught listing job ads that clearly imply work has already begun. Current ones for a Technical Combat Designer and Senior Combat Designer both require the applicant to have played previous Sucker Punch games and know how their combat works, while an ad for an Encounter Designer specifically wants someone that’s worked on an action or stealth title. Sucker Punch also want the Encounter Designer to have experience of working on a game focused on melee and/or stealth, as well as open world encounter design. There’s even a joke about … [Read more...] about Ghost Of Tsushima 2 is now the worst kept secret at PlayStation

PlayStation State of Play indie games round-up – from Stray on PS Plus to Rollerdrome
From rollerblade action in Rollerdrome to Persona-esque dating sim/action game Eternights, here are all the indie games from the recent State of Play. Amidst all the big reveals from last night’s State of Play, like the Resident Evil 4 remake and Final Fantasy 16 ’s release window, a number of indie games were also either announced or received updates. Perhaps the most notable of the bunch was Stray, Annapurna’s adventure game which became immediately popular for letting you play as a cat. It was announced as part of the PlayStation 5 reveal back in 2020 and is now scheduled for release on July 19. The other interesting detail is that it will be a free download if you’re subscribed to the Extra or Premium tier of the revamped PlayStation Plus service, which arrives in the UK on June 22. We can likely expect more scenarios like this in the future, but it’ll only apply to third party games like Stray. Sony has already explained why it won’t add its own first … [Read more...] about PlayStation State of Play indie games round-up – from Stray on PS Plus to Rollerdrome

Weekend Hot Topic: Best PlayStation exclusives ever
Readers debate their favourite PlayStation only games from across the years, from Metal Gear Solid to Bloodborne. The subject for this week’s Hot Topic was suggested by reader Tosh, who was inspired by the recent launch of PS Plus Premium and its easy access to classic PlayStation titles. Although any game that was exclusive at the time of release qualified, whether it was made by Sony or not. Lots of games, for almost every PlayStation format, were mentioned, although with a particular bias towards the original PlayStation and the most recent two consoles. Which suggests that while nostalgia is strong Sony is still hitting the right notes. Release order For me though the absolute best exclusive is the Ico trilogy. The only difficultly is deciding which one. I think The Last Guardian is the weakest, even if it’s still good (like World’s End compared to Hot Fuzz) but comparing the other two is tricky. As great as Ico is I think there’s a lot more subtext going … [Read more...] about Weekend Hot Topic: Best PlayStation exclusives ever
PlayStation wants to make new emulators – hopefully includes PS3
With any luck, Sony ’s plans to build new emulators for its retro games means you won’t need to cloud stream old PS3 titles on PS5 . One of the big selling points of PlayStation Plus ’ new Premium tier is access to a library of retro games from previous PlayStation consoles. There are already several fan favourite PlayStation 1 and 2 games available and, while its an admittedly small line-up, the library is bound to improve as more games are added to it. The downside is that PlayStation 3 games can only be played via cloud streaming, since the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 aren’t able to properly emulate them. However, there may be signs that Sony plans to rectify this in the future. A newly posted job listing for a software development engineer at Sony states that the chosen candidate will work on ‘the Tools and Technology team at PlayStation Studios to support the newly relaunched ‘Classics’ for PS4 and PS5.’ The listing also mentions adding new … [Read more...] about PlayStation wants to make new emulators – hopefully includes PS3

PlayStation launches new subscription service at double original price – can it win over gaming fans?
Sony PlayStation has launched its answer to Microsoft Xbox's Game Pass gaming subscription service. The Game Pass Ultimate has offered gamers a huge back-catalogue for the last five years, in return for monthly or yearly payments. It has been widely praised for its value for money, providing access to some of the biggest titles on the market. Now, PlayStation hopes subscribers will upgrade from its rather more basic PS Plus service to the new PS Plus Premium. Currently the base tier of PS Plus will set you back £6.99 per month or £49.99 per year. Advertisement The Premium tier costs around double that at £13.49 (£3.50 more than Xbox) monthly or £99.99 annually. PSVR 2: Is Sony about to drop an update on the new Playstation headset?
It’s been a while since we’ve heard any news about the Playstation VR 2 , but Sony could be preparing to release further details about its highly anticipated virtual reality headset. While the gaming company confirmed it was working on its new hardware last year, it was only officially named at CES in January 2022 and revealed for the first time a month later. It will follow the original PSVR headset that was launched in October 2016. The latest version is designed to be more comfortable with additional vents, to prevent lenses from fogging, and a wider field of view. One of its most highly touted features is its eye-tracking capabilities, which means the headset is able to follow the movement of the user’s eyes and use rendering techniques to adjust resolutions based on whatever they are focusing on. The PlayStation VR 2 sense controllers also come with built-in touch sensors and haptic feedback, much like the PS5’s dualsense controllers . The headset also has … [Read more...] about PSVR 2: Is Sony about to drop an update on the new Playstation headset?
