Every second, an estimated 350 liters of water gush out of the famous Ojo de Agua spring in Belen, an area a few kilometers from Costa Rica 's capital San Jose. Water is recognized as a crucial source of life in Costa Rica. Last year, the right to access drinking water was enshrined in the constitution. But the country is also working on guaranteeing the sustainable protection of water sources like the Ojo de Agua for future generations. There are an estimated 30 springs in Belen, which is home to around a million residents. The municipality there is setting its sights on cleaning up the water by improving systems of waste management. They want to avoid rubbish ending up in the soil where it can pollute groundwater or leak into local springs. True scale of global food waste remains unclear
According to a global food waste index released on Thursday, some 931 million tons of food waste were generated across the world in 2019. The report, published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and UK charity WRAP, equates that to 17% of all food available to consumers. At 61%, the majority was created in households. The retail and food service sectors performed better, generating 13% and 26% respectively. The index does not factor in food loss which differs from food waste in that it occurs during production, storage or processing and never reaches the consumer. "If we want to get serious about tackling climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste, businesses, governments and citizens around the world have to do their part to reduce food waste." Pensioner stabbed by neighbour because her ‘washing machine was too loud’ then told her to ‘hurry up and die’
A PENSIONER was stabbed in the neck by her neighbour as he muttered "die, die", allegedly because her washing machine was too loud. In chilling footage, Brett Vaisey, 56, can be heard telling Annick Henenberg, 65, to "hurry up and die" during the savage attack at their public housing block in Melbourne, Australia. Despite being stabbed in the neck, Ms Henenberg managed to film the entire incident which almost left her dead. According to Ms Henenburg, the altercation began because Vaisey was so disgruntled by the noise of her laundry in the washing machine that he turned it off several times.
