Hilltown and Lochee residents are calling on Dundee City Council to reconsider plans to centralise the caretakers with a “rapid response” team. Lochee’s Save Our High Street group, Phoenix Residents Group in Whorterbank and the Dundee Pensioners Forum are now set to take to the streets to petition fellow residents – claiming safety is being put at risk. Jayne Kelly, from Save Our High Street, said: “Everybody I have spoken to has been vehemently opposed to it. “For a lot of people, the caretakers are the first point of contact, so we want the council to reconsider this. “There’s a difference between consulting with us and allaying fears on a decision that’s already been made.” The new unit would be … [Read more...] about Locals ‘vehemently’ against plans to withdraw concierge services from Dundee multis

Agnel Philip The Arizona Republic Published 2:20 p.m. UTC Jul 7, 2018 PHOENIX — A company contracted to provide transportation for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement housed children in an unlicensed facility near downtown Phoenix, according to a report from Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. They can't face these children that have been ripped from their families with a smile." The posts were shared … [Read more...] about Did a flight attendant see 16 migrant children on a flight from Phoenix to Miami?

Staff were briefed at a behind-closed-doors meeting last week on the plan to replace evening caretakers at all of the city’s multis with a two-car team of council officers. The unit would be based out of Dundee West Housing Office in Lochee, responding to incidents that are either called in or spotted on council CCTV. However, they would also have a direct link with the police in the event of an emergency. At present, caretakers work shifts as late as 3am, monitoring multi entrances, reporting incidents and assisting residents as required. Councillors have shared concerns about the replacement service’s ability to cope with potentially high … [Read more...] about Safety fears as concierge service at all Dundee multis to be scrapped for two-car ‘rapid response’ team
