Joe Wicks recalled using exercise as a stress relief while reflecting on his father Gary’s addiction to heroin. The Body Coach star, 36, has been vocal about his dad’s drug battle – which Joe highlights in his upcoming BBC documentary Joe Wicks: Exploring My Childhood – as well as his own mental health struggles. During Monday’s edition of This Morning , the social media personality explained to presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby how his father’s behaviour affected him. ‘He was soothing himself, he was overwhelmed with the feelings he was going through from childhood trauma,’ he said. ‘Going back into my childhood, I can see how exercise was my medication. I was so overwhelmed with what was going on at home, I couldn’t deal with that.’ He continued: ‘So I would just run everywhere, I’d join the gym. I would join football teams and clubs, so I released all that anger, frustration, and energy through fitness. ‘That’s why I visit schools today … [Read more...] about Joe Wicks ‘released anger through fitness’ after father’s battle with heroin addiction: ‘I couldn’t deal with that’

‘Yellow cards for diving’: Dan Schofield replies to Telegraph readers on football-style faking in rugby
Gamesmanship has suddenly become a worrying issue in rugby. Long thought of as the preserve of footballers, rugby players are now pushing the idea of fair play to the limits. As our columnist Will Greenwood wrote last week : "In rugby, we have enjoyed looking down on football, claiming we occupy the moral high ground...Well, don’t be so sure. Rugby is on that road, and it has all come about from a very real concern around player welfare and head safety." So what can be done to make sure rugby shows the yellow card to football-style faking? Exeter Chiefs edge nine-try Premier 15s thriller to keep double dream alive
Exeter Chiefs 29 - 26 Bristol Bears Exeter Chiefs took a giant leap in their quest to secure an unprecedented league and cup double after edging a resilient Bristol Bears outfit to secure a home Premier 15s semi-final. Buoyed by a 2,657-strong superhero-themed crowd – a marketing ploy that roped in a record attendance for a women’s club game here – the home side brought their own magic capes for the high-octane encounter and nine-try thriller. In a week when it was announced that the United States would host the 2031 and 2033 World Cups, it was fitting that four of the five tries were crafted through their American players, with Jennine Detiveaux and Kate Zackary crossing twice in a topsy-turvy contest. “I thought we were jittery today,” said Susie Appleby, the Exeter head coach. “Our decision making wasn’t great. But Bristol Bears are a brilliant side and we have to give them absolute respect. I hope we get a good game next Sunday.” Detiveaux opened the scoring after flying … [Read more...] about Exeter Chiefs edge nine-try Premier 15s thriller to keep double dream alive
May is Mental Health Awareness Month: COVID may have normalized mental health struggles
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and, according to the World Health Organization, the prevalence of anxiety and depression globally increased by a massive 25% in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic alone. Social isolation was cited as one of the reasons for the increased stress felt by so many during the pandemic. Add in constraints on people’s ability to work or to seek support from loved ones, engage in their communities, loneliness, fear, grief, financial worries and exhaustion from those who work in health care and the perfect storm of a mental health crisis is created. Mental health care providers in Louisiana say they have felt the crisis up close and personal. “The pandemic has challenged the resiliency of people who would previously have had no empathy for anxiety and depression," said Roy Petitfils, LPC, whose counseling practice is based in Lafayette with Pax Renewal Center. Petitfils said the pandemic forced many to deal with realities that were once … [Read more...] about May is Mental Health Awareness Month: COVID may have normalized mental health struggles
