JANUARY: Theresa May repeats her mantra ‘Brexit means Brexit’, and says there will never be a second referendum while she is Prime Minister. Meanwhile, the Cabinet issues secret orders for millions of bread ration cards to be printed by The Stationery Office in the event of no deal. Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson is suspected of leaking the story to the Press. The resulting furore forces Mrs May to suggest a second referendum is a possibility. The Canadian government announces plans to start building a giant wall along the 5,525-mile border with America to stop U.S. citizens fleeing because they are fed up with President Trump. LABOUR’S deputy leader Tom Watson and Peter Mandelson hosted a barbecue for moderate MPs where ousting Jeremy Corbyn was on the menu. The key ally of Tony Blair held the event at his London home last month after burying the hatchet with Mr Watson, one of Gordon Brown’s henchmen. They joined forces to discuss taking back control of the party and the prospects of starting a new one, The Sunday Times revealed today. Mr Watson had been instrumental in the so-called "curry house plot", hatched at an Indian restaurant in Wolverhampton, which helped force Mr Blair from Downing Street back in 2006. This event last month has been dubbed the "barbecue boys" by one insider, and comes amid splits in Labour on Brexit and a spiralling anti-Semtism crisis. One source told the newspaper: "Peter Mandelson and Tom Watson teamed up and buried the hatchet to host a meal for very select Labour moderates. “The purpose of the barbecue was to plot the post-Corbyn succession and discuss the … [Read more...] about Labour deputy Tom Watson and Peter Mandelson host barbecue for moderate MPs to ‘plot how to oust Jeremy Corbyn’
But please don’t feel sorry for me because there are at least 17.4 MILLION people like me in the UK. Yes, according to Peter Mandelson, the “arch Patriot”, we Brexiteers are nationalists and are fuelled by hatred of foreigners. Patriotic Peter was also so kind to then give us a lecture on the difference between being a Nationalist and a Patriot like him. Of course, Peter is a real patriot, isn’t he? So much so, that along with people like Neil Kinnock, he swore an oath of allegiance to the EU years ago which means he loses his gold-plated EU pension of at least £34.5 thousand a year for life if he ever criticizes the European Union. REMAINERS have been calling for a second EU referendum since the moment Britain voted to leave on June 23, 2016. While Theresa May has continually ruled out holding a second vote, former Cabinet members, arch-Brexiteers and prominent public personalities have all thrown their weight behind another vote on our EU status. Will there be a second referendum? Former Education Secretary and Remainer Justine Greening is the latest MP to call for a second referendum. Ms Greening blasted Theresa May's Chequers plan on July 16, saying it offered the "worst of both worlds" and called for a second referendum. Theresa May's official spokesman has said: "The British people have voted to leave the EU and there is not going to be a second referendum under any circumstances." It could depend on how Brits perceive Parliamentary squabbles over Mrs May's Chequers deal. The Liberal Democrats and Greens are demanding a vote on the final Brexit deal, with the option of remaining in the EU, along with … [Read more...] about Will there be a second EU referendum, what was the result of the Brexit vote and what have Peter Mandelson and Justine Greening said?
Britain’s former trade commissioner in Brussels, Lord Mandelson, is making common cause with hardline, anti-EU Tories, saying Theresa May’s latest Brexit blueprint would lead to “national humiliation” and leave the country in a worse position than if it turned its back on the entire European economic system. In an extraordinary intervention that shows that even the most ardent Remainers in parliament find the plans unacceptable, Labour peer Mandelson says the plans would deliver “the polar opposite of taking back control”, and would mean “the EU would ultimately call the shots, not just now but indefinitely”. Writing in the Observer – as a new Opinium poll shows support for the Tories has haemorraghed and backing for Ukip has soared since the plans were agreed by the cabinet 10 days ago – Mandelson writes: “Britain, in effect, would be entrapped and the more you think through the implications the more the whole thing … [Read more...] about Peter Mandelson joins Brexiters in attack on May’s EU ‘humiliation’
