Boris Johnson is trying to set up a charity to help fund a luxurious revamp of his grace-and-favour flat, it was claimed today. The Prime Minister faces questions over works overseen by his fiancee Carrie Symonds in the plush, four-bed living space above No11. The 32-year-old has removed Theresa May ’s “John Lewis furniture nightmare” and paintings by British artist John Nash hang alongside works by the PM himself, according to an article in Tatler. The Cabinet Office will be forced to publish any taxpayer spending on the project in its annual accounts this summer. But today No10 refused to deny reports that the Prime Minister, 56, wants to fund the some of refurb through donations - after being told he could only claim around £30,000 from the state. The Daily Mail reported Mr Johnson had privately complained the cost was “totally out of control” and amounted to “tens and tens of thousands”, which he would struggle to afford after an expensive divorce from ex-wife Marina … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson ‘setting up a charity’ to fund lavish refurb of his Downing Street flat

Take a trip to the Maldives’ palm-lined beaches and crystal-clear waters for just £14pp a night
A HONEYMOON in the Maldives has always been a bucket-list trip that risks breaking the bank . . . until now. The island of Dhiffushi offers the palm-lined beaches and crystal-clear waters newlyweds would expect from a holiday to the atoll nation — but at a fraction of the cost. Rooms at a top-rated 3H hotel on the Indian Ocean island are from just £99.39pp for a week. That is cheaper than a single night on most resort islands. So what’s the catch? Unusually for the Maldives, Dhiffushi is a residential island where locals live alongside tourists. A decade ago, the mile-long stretch of land became the first non-resort island in the Indian Ocean to host holidaymakers after its government opened up local islands to tourism. The Maldives is a Muslim country and, unlike resort islands, alcohol is prohibited on local islands. For visitors after a taste of the real Maldives, the trade-off is worthwhile. But you need not detox entirely: Guests can visit a floating … [Read more...] about Take a trip to the Maldives’ palm-lined beaches and crystal-clear waters for just £14pp a night

Simon Cowell ‘rows in the street’ with Lauren Silverman before she walks off
Simon Cowell has been spotted having what appeared to be a row with partner Lauren Silverman in the street. Onlookers claimed that talent show mogul Cowell had a 'face like thunder' during the exchange that Lauren 'walked away' from. The X Factor judge and long-term partner Lauren were spotted on a walk with their seven-year-old son Eric and dog when they paused to face each other, in pictures obtained by The Sun. A passer-by told the paper "They seemed to be rowing. Simon had a face like thunder. It appeared to be very fraught. “Lauren turned to move off and Simon put out his hand as if he didn’t want her to walk off." The onlooker said Simon, 61, appeared cross and got his phone out to call someone after crossing to the other side of the road alone. "It was odd they walked in the same direction but not together," said the observer, adding that the couple both looked annoyed. A source close to the family denied there was a quarrel and said the pair are happier than … [Read more...] about Simon Cowell ‘rows in the street’ with Lauren Silverman before she walks off
