Black Lives Matter risks Premier League support loss over anti-Israel views

July 1, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

The U.K. Black Lives Matter (BLM) group has come under criticism from prominent figures in U.K. football after releasing statements about support for "Free Palestine" and comments about "defunding the police." The Black Lives Matter U.K. account tweeted: "As Israel moves forward with the annexation of the West Bank, and mainstream British politics is gagged of the right to critique Zionism, and Israel's settler colonial pursuits, we loudly and clearly stand beside our Palestinian comrades. "Free Palestine." The President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Marie van der Zyl, criticized the tweet, describing it as "beyond disappointing" and for leaning into an "antisemitic trope that British politics is "gagged." In another social media post, when calls to "defund the police" made by protesters were criticized by Labour Party leader Keir Starmer, the Black Lives Matter account tweeted a staunch defense of the comments: "When we say 'Defund the police' we mean 'Invest in … [Read more...] about Black Lives Matter risks Premier League support loss over anti-Israel views

Iran, proxies threaten Israel over “evil” West Bank annexation plan

July 7, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

The Iranian regime and its allies in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip have warned they will confront Israel if its government pushes ahead with a plan to annex parts of the Palestinian West Bank—a move considered illegal under international law and widely condemned by the international community. The new Israeli coalition government, currently led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, plans to extend Israeli sovereignty to West Bank Jewish settlements and the Jordan Valley, representing some 30 percent of all West Bank land. The annexation will be part of President Donald Trump's controversial peace plan, which has been dismissed by Palestinian leaders as an Israel-designed blueprint for permanent subjugation of the Palestinian people. In a letter sent to Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh published Tuesday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his nation would spare no effort in helping to "eliminate the evil threat posed by the fraudulent, usurping Zionist regime," … [Read more...] about Iran, proxies threaten Israel over “evil” West Bank annexation plan

Jeff Goldblum Under Fire For Questioning Anti-Gay, Anti-Woman Aspects Of Islam | The Daily Wire

April 27, 2020 by www.dailywire.com

So now people are blasting actor Jeff Goldblum (“Jurassic Park”) because he dared to question the noticeable and verifiable anti-gay, anti-woman aspects of Islam. Speaking on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in a recent episode, Goldblum asked a Muslim about the more problematic aspects of the faith, which require women in certain countries to wear head-coverings, and leads to gay people being hanged in the public square. “Is there something in this religion that is anti-homosexuality and anti-woman? Does that complicate the issue? I’m just raising it and thinking out loud and maybe being stupid,” Goldblum asked, as reported by Page Six. Goldblum directed the question to Iranian-Canadian Jackie Cox (real name Darius Rose), who was wearing “a red and white striped caftan and a blue hijab with silver stars.” “You can be Middle Eastern, you can be Muslim, and you can still be American,” Cox said of the outfit. Cox wore the outfit as a means to represent religious minorities, not a … [Read more...] about Jeff Goldblum Under Fire For Questioning Anti-Gay, Anti-Woman Aspects Of Islam | The Daily Wire

Israel’s excuses for annexation are all factually, legally and logically wrong | Opinion

June 30, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

On July 1 st , Israel's governing coalition has pledged to begin a process placing parts of the West Bank under Israeli sovereignty. While ideological battles are reaching a fever pitch, one point should be unambiguous. As United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres told the UN Security Council on June 24 th , annexation would be a "most serious violation of international law." Yet beyond openly ideological arguments, annexation supporters repeatedly and brazenly employ international law justifications to support the policy. The right-wing claim that annexation is acceptable in international law tends to rest on three main points. First, they argue that " extending sovereignty " is not annexation at all, because the West Bank was not recognized sovereign territory when captured in 1967; these arguments insist that annexation refers only to acquiring territory owned by a state. Second, annexation advocates argue that it is legal to extend Israeli law to territory … [Read more...] about Israel’s excuses for annexation are all factually, legally and logically wrong | Opinion

Hayden Disses Breitbart: ‘Illegitimate’ And ‘Kind Of Scary’ | The Daily Wire

March 8, 2017 by www.dailywire.com

In an interview with Business Insider ’s Oliver Darcy, Former Central Agency (CIA) Director Michael Hayden described Breitbart as a news media outlet with an illegitimate worldview that operated in a realm of fiction. “There are some outlets that have incredibly powerful lenses by which they view the facts they collect. I think the Breitbart and the likes are off the chart in terms of shaping data to meet the preconceptions,” said Hayden. Hayden described Breitbart as animated by an “illegitimate worldview,” engaging in distortion of facts: “They have a worldview, and they are playing with it. I think it’s an illegitimate worldview, and I think it’s a non-fact-based worldview. It’s a worldview in which preexisting visions seem to be being used to distort the fact pattern that exists. Presumably invited to do so by Darcy, Hayden described as “very troubling” the premise that President Donald Trump “[seems] to value Breitbart reports over data compiled by intelligence … [Read more...] about Hayden Disses Breitbart: ‘Illegitimate’ And ‘Kind Of Scary’ | The Daily Wire

Your eyes could be as good as an astronaut’s if you can spot the space walker’s legs on the International Space Station

August 17, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

YOUR eyesight could be as good as an astronaut’s if you can spot the space walker’s legs on the International Space Station. NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei posted a picture from a Russian spacewalk and issued a challenge to viewers. Hidden in the picture is an astronaut's legs dangling off the side of the space station. In the picture, taken February 2 2018, a breath-taking view of Earth can be seen amid the vast landscape of space. Cosmonauts Alexander Misurkin and Anton Shkaplerov set a new record for the longest Russian spacewalk that day. The pair spent eight hours outside the ISS to install new parts to an antenna to improve communications with Russia's flight controllers on Earth, CNET reported. With annexation pledge, Netanyahu might have bitten off more than he can chew | Opinion

June 12, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

Next Sunday, U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman is scheduled to join a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi. The purpose of the meeting is to resolve differences between the positions of Netanyahu and Gantz/Ashkenazi on the issue of Israel's proposed unilateral annexations of part of the West Bank; land captured by Israel 53 years ago this week. Sunday's meeting will be the second time Friedman has taken the unprecedented step of directly interfering in Israel's domestic affairs, in a manner and direction that has never been done before. Granted, U.S. ambassadors have always been very public figures in Israel. But they never became openly involved in disputes within the Israeli government—and certainly never to push a point of view that has been antithetical to the position held by successive U.S. administrations for the past 53 years. The topic of the meeting is, whether, and how much of the West … [Read more...] about With annexation pledge, Netanyahu might have bitten off more than he can chew | Opinion

We should not be surprised by Israeli annexation | Opinion

June 11, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

The world is in veritable tizzy over annexation. Come July, there's the very real possibility Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will introduce proposals to apply Israeli law and sovereignty to large parts of the West Bank and even the Jordan Valley—thereby consigning a two-state solution to the dustbin of history. But the understandable cosmic "oy vey" emanating from diplomats, analysts and peaceniks over the short- and long-term consequences of annexation both masks and reflects a more profound and worrisome reality. Even if Netanyahu chose not to annex, which remains a real possibility, the so-called "peace process" is likely to remain a hapless and dysfunctional wreck rendered all but comatose by a host of contradictions and challenges. We should fight the battle to prevent annexation, if possible—but we must bear in mind, too, the distinct possibility that the war may already be lost. As the 20th anniversary of the ill-fated July 2000 Camp David summit—the last serious … [Read more...] about We should not be surprised by Israeli annexation | Opinion
