Ryan Reynolds’ unexpected gift to Wrexham fan set to raise big money for charity

August 8, 2022 by metro.co.uk

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds ’ surprise gift of 100 signed DVDs to a British dad will go towards raising funds for research into a blood disorder called ITP. The actor visited 45-year-old Rob Clarke’s Mad4Movies entertainment store in Wrexham, North Wales with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney last year following their purchase of Wrexham FC. They struck up a conversation with Rob and also spoke to his sons Henry and Charlie who suffers from ITP – a condition that can cause easy bruising, bleeding gums and internal bleeding in sufferers. ‘They [Ryan and Rob] signed some DVDs, including a Green Lantern one which Ryan jokingly admitted wasn’t his finest work – he wasn’t afraid to have a laugh at himself.’ However, dad Rob was stunned when he later received a message from Ryan – who is married to former Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively – saying he was going to send him a gift. He posted on Facebook on Saturday: ‘Just when you think things … [Read more...] about Ryan Reynolds’ unexpected gift to Wrexham fan set to raise big money for charity

August 8, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

HUNDREDS of thousands of parents of 16-year-olds or older could have their child benefit payments stopped unless they take action soon. Those with children aged 16 to 19 who are continuing in full-time education must let HMRC know before August 31 or risk losing ongoing payments. This applies if you have a teenager who turned 16 this year or whose birthday is before August 31. Families that miss the deadline in just a few weeks will automatically lose the benefit for their child. The payments are worth £21.80 a week if your eldest child has turned 16 or £14.45 per week if it's a middle or younger child. Publix distances itself from heiress Julie Jenkins Fancelli after report of Jan. 6 rally funding

January 30, 2021 by www.newsweek.com

Supermarket chain Publix is seemingly trying to distance itself from heiress Julie Jenkins Fancelli, who is one of Publix's founder George W. Jenkins' seven children, following reports that she was a key funder in the January 6 rally , which culminated in rioters storming the United States Capitol. According to a Wall Street Journal article published Saturday morning, Fancelli "paid for the lion's share of the roughly $500,000 rally at the Ellipse," which former President Donald Trump spoke at. She reportedly contributed about $300,000 to the rally, while far-right web show host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones pitched in about $50,000. The WSJ report says that Fancelli had reached out to Jones about contributing and that the heiress also had a hand in selecting organizers such as fundraising official Caroline Wren. Following the article's publication, some people called on Publix for a response to the heiress' reported involvement. From the @PublixHelps account on … [Read more...] about Publix distances itself from heiress Julie Jenkins Fancelli after report of Jan. 6 rally funding

Fare comparison: The pros and cons to consider when booking domestic flights

August 3, 2022 by www.stuff.co.nz

When booking a domestic flight, for many of us, nabbing the cheapest possible fare is our top priority. But sometimes paying more upfront can work out more cost-effective in the long run, should your travel plans change. Be warned, though – a “flexible” fare might not be as flexible as it appears, and sometimes a “refundable” fare doesn't actually mean you’ll get your money back. Here’s a guide to the domestic fare types offered by Air New Zealand and Jetstar, and the pros and cons of each. READ MORE: The truth about airfares and why they can be so expensive The truth about flexible airfares and flight credits What are your rights when your flight is cancelled? Air New Zealand Seat/Seat+Bag Pros: - This is the cheapest option – especially if you opt for seat only (a checked bag will cost $20 extra per leg, or $40 for the return journey). - You’ll earn Airpoints (unless it’s a Grabaseat Greenlight deal, or you pay using Airpoints dollars) and status … [Read more...] about Fare comparison: The pros and cons to consider when booking domestic flights

The 130,000 Bucks That Stopped Everywhere

May 3, 2018 by www.theatlantic.com

Harry Truman had a sign on his desk that read, “The Buck Stops Here.” On Wednesday, Donald Trump’s newest attorney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, went on Fox News to address the $130,000 bucks that seem to stop everywhere. Days before the 2016 presidential election, the porn actress Stormy Daniels received that six-figure sum from Trump’s then-attorney, Michael Cohen, for ceasing to tell the public that she and Trump once had adulterous sex. Did the money come from Trump or the Trump campaign? On February 13, Cohen, who facilitated the transaction using a trumporg.com email address , told The New York Times in a statement, “I used my own personal funds to facilitate a payment of $130,000 … Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly.” On March 6, 2018, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said , “there was no … [Read more...] about The 130,000 Bucks That Stopped Everywhere

READ MORE: New Zealanders with home loans cash in on low rates Here's how you might be able to keep on top of your home loan Forget the resolutions, here are five money changes to make at any time of the year If you can afford to make any amount of payment above the minimum set by your bank, it will make a significant difference to the overall cost of your home loan. Most modern mortgages are set up as table loans. The closer you are to when you took the home loan out, the greater proportion of your payment goes to interest costs. The Soviet Family

February 1, 1952 by www.theatlantic.com

on the World Today IN the first years after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, Russian leaders believed that by removing both the legal and economic bonds of family life they would make possible the development of “true monogamy” and “true family unity.” This conception underlay the Soviet Family Code of 1926, in which both marriage and divorce were made a matter of private agreement. Marriage was treated in law as a de facto relationship; registration of marriage, although encouraged, was not essential. Similarly, divorce could be accomplished merely by factual separation — although, again, the husband or wife was encouraged to notify the Bureau of Vital Statistics, at least bypostcard. The liberalization of marriage and divorce was part of a larger program leading to the ultimate “withering away of the family”— that is, of the family as a legal and economic institution. Inheritance was at first declared to be abolished, and was later reintroduced with very severe … [Read more...] about The Soviet Family
