Ryanair is on a collision course with the airline's UK regulator over its decision to reject compensation claims amid a pilots' strike. The low-cost airline is claiming it does not need to compensate customers as it cancels hundreds of flights due to a strike by pilots and cabin crew across Europe.More than 600 flights were cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday as cabin crews in Belgium, Spain and Portugal went on strike over pay and conditions.The carrier is also facing more strikes by its Irish pilots over similar concerns. RYANAIR passengers caught up in one of the 600 flight cancellations across Europe next week have complained that they can’t get through to customer services to organise re-bookings or refunds. The airline announced yesterday that 600 flights have been cancelled on July 25 and 26 to Belgium, Portugal and Spain, due to cabin crew going on strike. While Ryanair has told Sun Online Travel that 75 per cent of the customers affected by the strikes had been re-accommodated, many others were left wondering how they would get to or from their planned destinations. HEAVY rain brought travel chaos today as Stansted Airport cancelled flights and the M2 was closed amid a yellow warning for torrential downpours. The south of England has borne the brunt of the bad weather today as photos and videos from Kent show how the busy motorway turned into "a river" and parts of Gravesend were submerged. Swathes of standing water brought traffic to a standstill and all lanes were closed between junctions 5 and 4 for Stockbury and Gillingham while officials battled to clear the flooding. At Stansted Airport — the scene of major disruption over the Bank Holiday weekend — air traffic control restrictions were being brought in due to the heavy rain leading to travel chaos.
